Doesn't sound that far off. A rate of 54% would be the divorce-to-marriage ratio, not a divorce-per-population ratio, and a quick googling says the rate was 47% in 2010 so I assume they found the highest year and used that. Sweden is a fairly irreligious country with an aging population, so the idea that less and less kids are formally hitching and more and more olds are getting divorced is to be expected.
