On March 15, 2017, the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), a liberal party lead by Mark Rutte, won the Dutch general elections, as they had in 2010 and 2012, meaning we get up to five more years of their rule, with Rutte being given a third term. The biggest loser tonight is Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), who spent long months as the frontrunner (some polls had them wining by a whopping 23 seats), but he plummeted in the polls in early March. He was unlikely to become prime minister anyhow as the other parties did not want to ally with PVV, meaning he would not have a parliament coalition and thus be stuck as the opposition leader, even if he got a majority of the votes. PVV is controversial for its platform of far-right populism, Dutch nationalism, anti-Islam, anti-immigration, and anti-EU, and is frequently accused of being neo-fascist. Wilders even went to trial in 2010 for hate speech over an anti-Islam film he made (he was found innocent under free speech laws). While results are still coming in, it is estimated PVV gained 4 seats. They tie in second (19 seats) with two other parties Christian Demographic Appeal (gained 6) and Democrats 66, another liberal party, (gained 7). So, they cannot even brag about going up the highest from 2012. VVD has 33 seats (lost 
in comparison, making them the largest party by 13 seats, doing better than polls suggested. The Green Left party, run by Jesse Klaver, who is of Moroccan descent, made the most gains with ~11 seats won for a total of 15. Another party with interest in immigrant rights, the Equality Party or DENK, won 3 seats in its first time in a general election.
For reference PVV is actually down seats from the 2010 election (they had 24), meaning the Dutch alt-right is weaker than it was seven years ago. Economists report that following the victory, the Euro is the strongest it’s been in a month.
In the time since the news, Wilders supports have proceeded to chimp-out at losing the outcome they, and many others in the Netherlands expected, while the rest of the nation celebrated the democratic process. Many are so scared of Mooslambs they want to move to the USA, with some saying how great it would be for America to be flooded with foreigners (oh the irony). After it became clear Wilders lost by huge margins, the Wilders pepe logo the_donald sub was using to promote him mysteriously vanished and the thread covering Dutch politics was unsticked to make room more for more Racheal Maddow mocking.
