This is the story of a comic book industry legend sperging out over an indie comic getting a publishing deal and possibly committing career suicide by shutting down a small publisher’s deal with his online enemy.

The internet is a fact of life nowadays, a prevalent beast that has an effect on nearly everything we do. One of its biggest effects has been the revelation that various legends have been unmasked as the complete spergs they really are, one of said legends-turned-spergs is Mark Waid, an ostensibly legendary comic book writer, responsible for some of the most celebrated comic books out there, such as Kingdom Come, Superman: Birthright, and celebrated runs on ongoing series like The Flash.

The thing is, Mark Waid never managed to get a handle on the internet, and it clearly shows in his online conduct: endless tantrums whenever something doesn’t go as he would like, constant virtue signalling about “How the strong should protect the weak” while bullying others into silence at same time, and staying quiet about sexual harassers within the industry. He also frequently rage quits social media whenever he gets a pushback on his insanity. Below are some examples:

In 2015, Batman #41 (New 52) had a variant cover that was homage to The Killing Joke. In The Killing Joke, the Joker shot a undisguised Batgirl in the spine paralyzing her for years. The controversy about the cover was because SJWs thought the cover looked rapey:

Mark Waid vs Diversity and Comics

Diversity and Comics, referred to as Zack, is a comic book critic on YouTube who is public enemy number one to snowflake comics pros because they don’t like his opinions.

Mark has an online feud with DiversityAndCmx (aka Zack). The feud started when Mark wanted an identifiable picture of Zack so that if he attended the Baltimore Comic Con he would be notified and “have a talk” with Zack (https://archive.md/e007i):

After the previous spergout, Mark announces he would be having a "Civil Conversation" with Zack over a phone call (https://archive.md/IQ931):

Mark then quotes a part of the conversation breaking the promise. Zack then makes a video talking about the conversation since Mark didn’t hold up to his word and did a Mark Waid impression mocking him.

Apparently Zack is very gifted at impressions because after that video Mark started threatening to sue Zack for illegally recording the conversation. Later when he caught heat for this, he made the excuse it was for a story he was working with at the time.

Within 24 hours of this post being made (https://archive.md/JG3GM),

Mark and a horde of SJWs bullied a small publishing company into dropping a project made by Zack and other artists (Jon Malin, Ethan Van Sciver) who have been getting pushed out of the SJW-infested comics industry.

The IndieGoGo was a massive success making $275K from the initial goal of $5K that was set out and received a publishing deal with Antarctic Press. After just 1 day of harassment, AP’s owner was forced to cancel the publication under the fear of continued harassment.

After getting some push-back from him strong-arming AP into dropping Jawbreakers, Mark:

Mark Waid effectively used his position as an industry legend and a Marvel Entertainment employee to shut down a smaller publisher from publishing Zack's indie book, making what he did a lawyer's wet dream:

Three separate lawyers to my knowledge have chimed in on Mark's phone call with Antartic, one of them being Leonard French (some of you may recognize that name as Leonard was one of the bigger people in the Alex Mauer case last year). Pretty much all of them, as OP points out, have said that Waid's actions are reprehensible at best, and flat-out illegal at worst. The Comicsgate thread has some more specific posts on what laws Waid may have just broken, but the long and the short of it is that they are laws companies never want to be caught breaking as it can spell large, hefty fines.

tldr, Waid really stepped in it and if that Chan anon wasn't telling the truth about CB Celubski before, he has a good chance of becoming an unintentional prophet. Waid's basically done in the professional industry.

I think Waid is aware of what he is on some level. There's this weird bit in the EVS interview where Waid talks about his "privilege" to have no familial obligations which he sites as part of the reason he needs to help those "less fortunate". Being a manchild in your 60s with no wife or children is not what any healthy person would consider a privilege.

I think it's highly unlikely that Marvel will back Mark if this goes to court. "Marvel allegedly uses unfair business practices to control comics market" is a news story that will play nationally. "Disney accused of harassing small comic creators out of business" is a news story that will play internationally.

Marvel/Disney knows that some of their writers have been doing some shit. They really don't want discovery to happen, and if they have to pay a couple million and cut one of their aging stars loose to prevent that from happening, they probably will.

It apparently went straight to his head. I liked it too, but he's really gotten unhinged. Waid first entered my radar when he was publicly sperging on his facebook about D&C's Meyer might be attending the same con as him, and he put out a call-to-arms asking for all his professionals and fans to pull him aside, even if speaking at a panel, so he could go confront him(presumably to start a fight). It's fucking mental how he can't take criticism of troons in the industry. Waid wasn't even one of D&C's targets of criticism! Ultimate white-knighting so hard, it horsehoe'd around into becoming essentially a black knight.
