Meh any villain with a mask the MCU has whose a dude in the comics is a woman in the films.
Only in shitty modern versions for realism Taskmaster has a mask. His face is literally a skull. He was a mutant with the power to copy anyone's fighting style, without any practice, just by watching his opponents fight. That's why this is a downgrade. The mask barely looks like a skull.

>Dafoe manages to trick Peter into thinking that their universe's Spider-Men were corrupted and killed them, and Peter needs to free them so they can save their planets
>Peter frees them, and they escape into the city
>Strange shows up and tears Peter a new one, explains that he had been holding them in this prison due to instability in the multiverse connected to each dimension's Oscorp experimenting with inter-dimensional travel and says Peter has a responsibility to stop them
Nice to know that we can continue the honored trend of throwing character development out the window. You'd think after being almost killed after being deceived in the second mlvie would wise the guy up a bit.

I don't remember Taskmaster ever being a mutant and the skull was just a mask, He was a guy who could just copy anything since young and enhanced that by taking a rip off super serum which had a side effect of him losing his personal memories

Taskmaster was a cool villain cuz he could stand toe to toe with most superheroes while still being a pretty much normal guy and often outsmarts them

Taskmaster isn't a mutant in the comics and never has been. And his skull mask has always been a mask.

I only know Taskmaster from the Marvel ARPG, and there he hyped himself up by claiming to "almost" once have deflected Captain America's shield. My understanding of him is that he can learn any fighting ability but lacks the physical capability to pull it off (never mind exotic stuff), so makes a killing by training minions for other super villains instead of bringing the heat himself.

That seems pretty cool tbh.

Watched the first Iron Man again.

Still holds up pretty well, and is one of the very best of this franchise.

Third act isn't the best though. Obadiah Stane, a sneaky underhanded businessman, suddenly becomes a cackling supervillian who can match Iron Man in a fight even though he doesn't have any experience wearing these suits.

It really set the tone for Marvel where every movie has to end in a big overblown action scene, no matter how contrived. Even the Disney+ shows haven't been able to get away from that so far.

What is it exactly that made the paramount films feel more “movie like” compared to the current crop. Like did marvel just stop giving a shit after selling to disney?

I now think that Ike Perlmutter was tard wrangling Feige. As chairman off Marvel, Ike had veto power and may have kept some dumb ideas off the table. Granted he had some bad ideas of his own (Inhumans tv show, the general direction of Marvel tv, pre D+). Feige did look the golden child with the success of Black Panther and Captain Marvel. But the switch of Marvel Studios to Disney Studios coincides with a lot of the current crop of trash being greenlit.

Edit: and early in the marvel studios days, Avi Arad was still onboard. He had produced a lot of the third party marvel films like the Raimi Spiderman trilogy and the Fox X-Men films. Avi actually brought Kevin in to be boots on the ground for the first X-Men film. I think Avi was EP on some of those early Marvel Studios flicks.

Disney wants average to slightly-above average films to maximize profits and has discovered a finely tuned formula to achieve that. All their films blend together and have an odd sanitized feel as a result.

I was just about to post how I just decided to start watching the first movies I missed when I saw yours. It really is astonishing how well it holds up. Going to watch Cap's right now. I didn't watch Hulk and have a vague memory of Thor, but I remember and heard both being pretty shit.
