You might not remember just how much of a stink Fox managed to make by attacking sex scenes in ME. People would discuss it for years to come. Yes, developers were not nearly as eager to bend the knee to the journos alone back then but that shit had a bigger reach than almost anything twitter/resetera censorship squads are doing these days.
Fistshaking housewives were enough to create entities like CCA and ESRB. First one is dead and second one is largely irrelevant thanks to digital stores like Steam, but pissing them off or going against their arbitrary judgements used to mean that you could not sell your product anywhere outside of literal porn stores.
The entirety of US GTA San Andreas stock (which was the biggest best selling game of its time) had to be recalled because it had a hidden inaccessible sex scene that made ESRB angry because Rockstar didn't tell them about it. And Fox News was by far the main outlet peddling this drama to the retarded masses. It was the biggest videogame scandal in history and ME2 was released just 4-5 years after that.
You have to be a partisan schizo to not at least consider pre-SJW era Bioware bitching out and removing one inconsequential fag scene from the game as something very plausible given the context.
2010 nobody gave a shit about Fox, all their bullshit was old man yelling at cloud. ME1 got the complaints about sex scenes and every subsequent Bioware game, including ME2 with Miranda, had a far more gratuitous one.

Furthermore, the series already had a history of removing fag shit. T'Soni aside, ME1 did not have any gay/lesbian sex scenes despite them being almost complete (voiced and all) during development.
Yes, they weren't averse to gay shit in their games but ME2 still existed during the times when you could remove/refuse to add any of the modern representation cancer to your product without causing the wrath of a thousand troons. Even among gamers not many people would be willing to defend them over a carpet munching scene with Jack of all things.

It's standard practice in games where the player has a choice between a male or female character for every line of dialogue to be recorded by both voice actors, so they don't have to book them again if something important was missed the first time.

I think you have it backwards, is all. 10 years ago (feels like 100) they weren't trying to pander to anyone with their dumbshit. If anything the pandering was very male focused because that's who buys Mass Effect and why they actioned it way the fuck up and male shep is the box art hero. Fox didn't do shit except bitch about how the world is going to hell because of sexual degeneracy which gets them outrage views from retired boomers.
Now in 2021, we have Bioware who does try to pander to lgtbasdjlkdsajlktlkjads and as a result they're trying to gaslight their own development history and blame the evil rightoid boogeyman for their game not being up to today's insane standards. It's like if Midway/NetherRealm Studios said that Mortal Kombat was going to have more violence or some mega-dyke character but they backed out because of Fox when they have a remaster/rerelease of those very games right around the corner.

You can claim that this article is lying about why the Jack scene got removed but you can't argue with the fact that Jack was both designed and written as a character that would be down for homosex and yet she didn't get to fuck femshep DESPITE the primitive drag and drop nature of those scenes. I mean, fuck, look at this she is explicitly written as gay and referencing her previous relationship with two chicks in the romance scene itself.
I'll give you the pansexual stuff, it does sound like bullshit, but I was talking about the romance part specifically.
What other reasons would there be to not have that scene other than due to the outrage that happened after Jacks's character was already written? It can't be for technical reasons because of the primitive copypaste nature of those scenes.
Hell, let's assume that developers in Bioware did not give a single fuck about what Fox News or its audience thought or said. It is totally plausible.
You know what is also possible and happens ALL THE TIME in the industry? Some shitty suit from EA could have seen those Fox hitpieces and just forced the developers to remove the most disgusting dyke scene from the game. It explains why the game is missing something so obvious. It explains why they are being so vague about who exactly made that decision since they are still owned by EA. And it also ties in neatly with your argument about them having to pander to male audience (female protag making out with a hot blue sex alien = fox may bitch but the audience will enjoy it; female protag making out with a disgusting mannish dyke = both fox and the target audience hate it so you better take it out of the game I am paying you to make or else).

Hell, it might have been one of the biggest precursors to the ideological split that happened in the industry in 2013.

In the original Mass Effect 3 plotline, the "true" cause for the reapers existing is because the use of mass effect fields in excess would have cause possible tearing in the fabric of reality itself (or something of the sort), hence why they eliminate space travelling races to avoid the cosmos from collapsing upon itself, hence the "salvation through destruction" line in ME2. Im probably missing some details but thats the gest of it.
Of course it got leaked so they had to scramble panic to make up a new reason on the spot for the reapers to do what they do. Basically turning them into evil but "for the greater good" type of lovecraftian monsters to basically big scuttlefish-bots with shitty AI that just cant grasp the fact that it has been proven wrong over and over again during the course of the entire trilogy, especially 3.
I also heard ME3's ending was Donald Trump's fault!
