I feel like it started sinking into his brain what he's doing by the reaction of a man begging for his life. He probably tried dehumanizing these people as much as possible in his mind, and as soon as he saw the man pleading for mercy + being white, it probably struck something in him. The immediate "sorry" really speaks volumes behind his mentality. Him apologizing to that one guy but killing the other whites without apologizing says a lot. The only two police officers on the entire island were away on a wild goose chase at the time of the shooting, called away to investigate a stash of heroin that turned out to be soap? While Martin Bryant was on the phone with the police during the hostage standoff, several gunshots are heard coming from his position indicating a second shooter, which were recorded on the transcript as coughs? Yep, totally nothing fishy going on there.

It's also one of the only shootings that led to an overwhelming change in legislation, which makes it all even more suspicious (despite what the Aussies would like you to think, plenty of mass shootings have happened before and after Port Arthur).

I find the manifesto itself odd because it doesn't read as something written by a person who was mainlining /pol/ and TDS for 2 years straight. Compare that to the Tarrant one or to the lingo and talking points of Anglin's website or any other far right forum. This is without getting into the gun shopping list, price spreadsheets and very specific wording when referring to firearms shit.

Believe it or not, I watched the old Alt-Right form online (never was a 4chan poster, though). Saw it form from roots in Neo-Reactionary and libertarian (specifically, a weird authoritarian libertarianism back when Pinochet posting was still trendy). So even though I don't keep up with the extreme Right-wing anymore (aside from the taste of it on Kiwi Farms), I have a good sense for it.

Something about the snippets of manifesto I've read just don't read right. It's like you said, he doesn't talk like a Rightist, he talks like somebody talking about the Right. I'm not convinced its a glow-op or anything (but glow ops are definitely real, the Spanish government used to do them against Anarchists all the time), but it puts me off in a way that other manifestos (like, say, the Texas Wal-Mart shooter) don't.
