An interesting post from 8ch. Searching for gargron on thecolorless.net does prove that he seemed to be a rather unpopular mod. The pedo stuff and twitter stuff is unverified as of now but it doesn't seem particularly hard to dig through and find evidence, considering he seems to have left behind a bad impression. If I were optimistic I'd avoid judging someone based on their 7 year old cringy internet history but the pattern continues. It's not that big of a leap to go from defending child groomers to defending actual rapists like Laurelai.

In which Eugen refuses to merge a commit adding support for VIEWING (not making) rich text formatting to Mastodon because it goes against his vision of being a twitter clone, a feature that virtually every other fediverse software has had for a decade. Many users are upset by this. In response to criticism, Eugen marks a bunch of posts off-topic and then silently closes the merge request. Everything he does is like a perfect example of how to not be a project maintainer. Guest appearance by Laurelai at the very end.
For those of you unfamiliar with how these kinds of projects work, basically someone created a fully working feature that allows Mastodon to read stuff like bold text and italics, and Eugen rejected it because he wasn't the one who came up with the idea.
If it isn't a Sexual Tyrannosaurus, then you can't have it.
I remember Wil Wheaton announcing his departure from twitter to Mastodon, and then something like a week later, he was crying about how Mastodon was complete shit, too.

First of all, it posted a few tweets about how you can't be racist against whites, and sexist against men. This whole thread wasn't archived, picture is sourced from Nick Monroe (Archive). There is an archive of the last two tweets, though, so it's legit.
The backlash caused them to pull the "we had a new social media manager" card (Archive), but even despite that person being gone, the tweets didn't stop.
