Careercow Matthew "MatPat" Patrick of Game Theory - He gave the Pope Undertale for love and peace...?

He's a sperg who made some somewhat neat videos about applying real world logic to games, but eventually started making up half-assed theories about any game that's super popular at the moment, and tried to give the fucken pope undertale as a gift in his once in a lifetime opportunity to meet him. He's a total dork and he's a bit of an arrogant dick, but ultimately he's pretty meh as far as cows go.

He's definitely got the personality traits of your typical lolcow. The only thing that's preventing him from being a lolcow is that while his content is cringeworthy, he hasn't done anything in particular to make a humorous fool of himself. He's a lolcalf as of now.

Whenever a lolcalf morphs into a full-blown lolcow, there's always a trigger event that draws the trolls in. More specifically, the lolcalf would have to do something that makes him a gigantic laughingstock in front of everybody. A classic example of such a trigger event was when Chris decided to post ShecameforCWC.jpg on Encyclopedia Dramatica to counter the assertion that he was gay.

As weird as it may be, having MatPat present Pope Francis a Steam key doesn't really seem to be a sufficient trigger event for a lolcalf-to-lolcow transition. The reason is simple: It's not really that amusing. So it was a wasted opportunity for him to give a Steam key for some game the pope might not even bother to play--Okay, so what? Where's the humor? Regardless of who it's given to, a Steam key is just a Steam key. Since when is the idea of giving a Steam key to someone famous supposed to be funny to begin with?

If anything, what MatPat did simply provoked ire, rather than lulz. There is a difference between someone being stupid to where it's humorous and someone being stupid to where he pisses people off. A lolcow's antics has to be able to bring laughs, not just anger.

Don't get me wrong, MatPat definitely has potential. Given the ire his actions might provoke, he could get targeted for dox, death threats, and other forms of harassment. He could turn into a lolcow if he posted something like a video with him sperging on camera against people that try to harass him.

He just hasn't gotten to that point yet.

To me he's just a sperg that devolved to making clickbait videos for youtube, like they all eventually do for money, who just happend to get the possibility to visit the pope and give him a stupid game steam key.
While it's one of the most fucking stupid things to happen, I'd still say he's just average.
When he makes theories that are wrong and is called out on it, he doesn't sperg about it, because he probably knows his theories are crazy/dumb and that is the entire point. "FNAF 4 got it ALL WRONG!" Is clickbaity as hell and will bring in the views. And doing dumb shit like giving the pope steam codes just as well.

The thing about MatPat is his content isn't really all that unique. We all have those kinds of theories be it for movies or games, we could sit here talking about whether Mac or Childs is a Thing at the end of the movie and in the end we're no different from him. MatPat just found an audience to make money off of this, and developed an ego along the way.

The Pope thing? Yeah, dumb as fuck. But if this were to be a regular thread, we'd pretty much be the guys on Reddit discussing his theory after each episode. Do we really want to sit around here debunking his theories? Because that's all we'd have until he makes a major chimp out.

That's actually goddamn genius. Maximize profit (free software, no extra development costs) while creating a totally rabid fanbase that will throw piles of money at you regardless. That's the glories of capitalism.

This sped giving the Pope his game is totally embarassing for the guy, but it's free publicity.
