MatPat......
You also forgot about his infamous comment about Iwata being the king of Nintendo all the way up to 2018.Holy fuck, I can’t believe I forgot probably the most crucial part of MatPat’s flaws in Theories. Alright, so there is an entire TV tropes article that pretty much covers the biggest flaws in MatPat’s theories, mainly the ones that have the biggest holes. It ranges from TF2 Vs. Overwatch, FNAF, Sans is Ness, and many more that covers what is wrong about all of these theories and what doesn’t make it stand up: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/CriticalResearchFailure/GameTheoryWebShow
What comment? On what platform or video? You also forgot about his infamous comment about Iwata being the king of Nintendo all the way up to 2018.
This was before he died back in 2014.
In one of his Earthbound videos. I don't remember which one? But I think TV Tromps may have it in their database. What comment? On what platform or video?
If any of you don't want to scroll through the entire page in order to understand why MatPat is full of shit, I feel like this should give you all you need to knowHoly fuck, I can’t believe I forgot probably the most crucial part of MatPat’s flaws in Theories. - Austin cites popularity polls to support that the Charmander/Charizard evolutionary family is better-appreciated and preferred than the other starters. He forgets several major things:
- He samples his Twitter followers over which starter they prefer. Problem is, he fails to account for the possibility that they could have voted for the Charmander family for reasons having nothing to do with the Pokémon itself, such as wanting Austin himself to win or Matt to lose.
- Austin also cites an official Nintendo Pokémon popularity poll, without noticing that the poll only accounted for Japanese fans, and not Western fans, who have demonstrated various preference dissonances that warrant entire tropes for themselves in the past.
- The most critical hole in the argument? Pikachu ranked above Charmander in that popularity poll. Pikachu is also a fellow Generation 1 starter Pokémon.
- Conversely, Matt tries to fire back (no pun intended) with his own citations.
- He says that since two Pokémon developers, Junichi Masuda and Shigeru Ohmori, didn't pick the Charmander family as a starter, Charmander must be more unfavourable to the Pokémon devs. Unfortunately, two people is a very pitifully small sample out of all of them.
- Matt claims that Ember, the Charmander's first fire attack is learned at level 38. This is very very wrong. It's learned at level nine. It's Flamethrower that is learned at level 38.
- Austin then says that Charizard flying around is more impressive than surfing. The issue is, you can only fly to settlements you have visited, no more no less. Meanwhile, Surf lets you traverse water barriers, and is utterly mandatory because the game throws such barriers at you. To nail its coffin, there are MUCH faster ways to get a flying Pokémon (e.g. a mere Pidgey).
- The worst part? Charizard can't fly in any Gen 1 game except Pokémon Yellow.
- Type weaknesses are also brought up, but Austin forgets that Charizard takes quadruple Rock damage... due to its dual typing.
- Matt claims that a player going through Mount Moon would have to fight "endless waves of Geodudes", hence using the Squirtle family's type effectiveness against Ground types. Unfortunately, Zubats are far more common there, and they are dual poison and flying types.
- Austin interprets the Gen 3 remake of Pokémon Blue being titled Pokémon LeafGreen as Blastoise falling out of favour with the developers to the point that he lost his cover art role, and ergo Blastoise sucked. This exhibits a major lack of understanding of the Gen. 1 game naming scheme:
- The original Japanese Gen. 1 games were named "Red" and "Green". This is where the Gen. 3 names "FireRed" and "LeafGreen" came from.
- An updated version of the Japanese Gen. 1 was released, called "Blue".
- One can gleam that the titles of those three games is derived from the additive primary colors of light: red, green and blue (RGB).
- The international releases were not a port, but rather Remade for the Export, including of bugfixes explored in the Japanese Blue, but the game parallelism derived from Red and Green.
- However, in English-speaking North America at least, red is generally contrasting with blue.
- Hence the names seem to have been changed as a Woolseyism.
- The anime-inspired Pokémon Yellow had no color name in the title in Japan. However, in the West, it was named "Yellow". Red, blue, and yellow comprise the traditional taught-in-school color wheel there.
- The two deadlockers then cite sales numbers (to, once again, judge popularity) of the Red version vs. the Blue version... except that you can pick either starter in both games.
Fun fact: Nick Nocturne personally detests MatPat. Normally Nick projects a very reasonable and positive presence online, but when it comes to talking about MatPat, well... read for yourselves.
Film theory: is reddit sans confirmed?!? View attachment 342373
I think I said this before in the Undertale thread, but i don’t have any strong feeling s one way or the other about him giving a copy of the game to the Pope. It’s an odd thing to do, but wherever. I could at least understand his reasoning at the time.
It was the making a 16 minutevideo patting himself on the back for doing so with a thumbnail that gave the Pope googly-eyes that was the lolcow-worthy part.
They were told that it was customary to bring a gift, one that also represented their culture.
MatPat got chosen for the US but wanted to represent internet gaming culture and how it brings people together, like Undertale does. (?)
KIWI THEORY: Sonichu EXPOSEDThis is all just a theory.....A KIWI THEORY.
Didn't Scott Cawthon down right disprove one Mat's FNAF theories by confirming Purple Man is indeed Spring Trap, If I remember correctly Scott commented on Mat's video.
Scott did this before on another FNAF video, and his comment ended up being buried ( most likely deleted by Mat Really).
I think he also runs Film Theory, where he did a video on the god damn Emoji Movie, I shit ye not he made a theory about an hour long phone commercial, but then again only an exceptional individual like him could try and find something in that to analyze
