Brb, gonna show this to my friend. He is going to love this. This happened a few months back but MatPat attempted to play Omori on GTLive. Fans of the game were immediately weary about him finding it and the inevitable comparisons to Undertale/Earthbound he would make (Omori is an rpg maker game). And well... of course he does. In the first five minutes alone he compares it to: undertale, earthbound, kingdom hearts, inside out(?), binding of issac(??).
If the comparisons weren’t enough during gameplay he gets into the tutorial fight and becomes visibly upset and confused by the game’s combat: Omori’s combat is heavily based on inflicting status effects on both opponents and your party in the form of emotions. Instead of playing the game as its instructing him to MattPat immediately ignores it and defaults into trying to Undertale pacifisting enemies which unnecessarily drags fights out.
Matt and his wife’s assessment of the game is that it’s combat system is literally emotional manipulation and goes against every message of kindness, compassion, and peaceful resolutions that every indie game promotes. So... he’s upset the not Undertale game doesn’t play like Undertale.
First live play here.
