Yeah his gimmick has worn really thin at this point. He has really good technical advice for amateur cinematography and shit but his same 4 jokes reworded slightly stopped being funny years ago. At this point I'm 90% convinced he doesn't want to make videos anymore, he just needs some form of material released semi-regularly to keep peoplef amiliar with him so he can hock those Skype classes or whatever the fuck he's selling.

One thing Max desperately tries to keep buried is that he got his start on YouTube back in 2007/2008 under the name "pimpinfishstix". He was just another drop in the bucket Armake21 / UrintaingTree game reviewer. That's when I first met him, and even back then you could sort of see the early version of "SoBro" starting to come out.
The "community" around that time was very tuned into the a-typical edgy teenage mentality that we still see today. We all floated around various image boards and SomethingAwful, which definitely brought a lot of different influences and opinions (for lack of a better term) into the group. Max however always bordered somewhere between blatant bigotry and proto-SJW, which I guess really is just a hypocrite. Way back then there was sort of a ruling class of the "internet friend circle" that he so desperately wanted to be apart of. I weaved in and out of a lot of groups there was mutual connections and he usually followed in tow since I was cool with the "higher ups". It was through me that he got his connections to SpazkidIn3D's friend group (this is during the height of Sonichu TAS and StretchDouche) and built his own hive-minded friend circle that would later enable / feed off of his shitty sycophantic behavior. He wanted so badly to be at the helm of the discussion and of people since he had nothing in his actual life.
I dropped out of contact with him for a few years before he and EtanThe3rd started CombustingHerpes, and despite all of his early yes-men "friends" turning on him for his hypocritical behavior (which by that time blossomed into full blown neo-nazi views), he very quickly assembled a new cast of bow-at-his-feet characters to tag along. I was a mod/admin of CH so I was always in calls with him on Skype, and he was always quick to ignore me or just straight up not talk to me and leave me with Olivia, her-then girlfriend, and two CH users (Floyd Pinkerton and FlexPuke). There were a couple of screen grabs early on in this thread from /cow/ with testimonials from CH posters and one on the original post by a moderator and everything they said is correct. He wanted desperately to control CombustingHerpes and everything that people said about his content and who he was. You weren't allowed to make even the SLIGHTEST criticism his stuff (including the site) on the board or in a skype call. I seemed to have a little bit of wiggle room to criticize the site which I think is because a.) I knew of his "game reviewer" past and he was probably scared that I would bring that up in front of everyone and b.) I had somehow managed to work my way into the moderation team for StretchDouche when it was starting out. He really badly wanted to emulate StretchDouche while I wanted to take the forum in just a more general-BS / SA sort of deal. After 2-3 months of arguing about I finally just cut ties with him and moved on.
It's hilarious to me to see he is still up and running and being a hypocrite with his content. He was always so quick to poke fun at tragedies, mentally ill, and autistics but now is the "Sarcastic Good Guy" who takes down those mean ol' Neo-Nazis and edgy incels. Would kill the kid to look in the mirror.

Here's my thing, I wouldn't really go out of my way to give all of this info out if he didn't take this angle. He never changed his tune, his targets just became easier to go after.
I don't really have an issue with anyone in his inner-circle (at least the ones I knew who are still around), it falls primarily on him. Not for ditching Olivia, not for our disagreements over CH, or anything else like that. It's largely his attempts at burying the past and not learning from his mistakes. I also know I totally gave myself away to him or any of his friends who are reading this thread, and that's fine. I know I am not a saint either, and I did my fair share of shitty / disgusting things on the internet.. big thing though is I can own up to that. I am totally comfortable with admitting "Yes, I did shitty things. I said awful things about people and did awful things." .. yet he isn't.
Constantly DMCAing the Arthur Dubs is proof positive of that. He is doing it not because "it doesn't reflect his current humor" , he knows it's damaging to his brand. Also him on twitter taking shots at Anthony Fantano and NC; I missed the boat on that one and don't give a shit.. and if I was in his shoes trying to build and audience and make some sort of identity for himself that's the last thing I would do. I totally get that it's the popular thing right now to run all over social media calling people out, but if he wants to be taken seriously as an independent film maker or create some sort of niche content.. it's not a good idea. He easily could have just went totally milquetoast or just kept himself low-key doing voices or creating small bits of story-driven content without some pseudo-social commentary on how he "hate shut-ins" and "internet fandom culture".

His weird aggression is my biggest problem with him. Even him being humiliated by his old childhood humor isn't that bad, I think we've all been there.
