max payne 1 and 2 were one of the games that marked my childhood. i think everybody played it or atleast came across it. the first game even though made pretty high end for it's time has the raw indie like game feel. it feels like it has some deep secrets within the already dark theme of it, like going to mount chilliad in gta san andreas. the dream sequences for me as a kid were very creepy. i want to talk about this game with you.

regarding me i know of this website for a really long time, i tried making an account 2yrs ago but i wasn't here for long i was just reading the posts for a couple of months then stopped visiting i don't know why. but i'm well met with the effect of this place on the global internet. i just think it is a good forum with good people i don't really care much about lolcows.

Max Payne 3 is a pretty good movie that you get to play sometimes. If you go into it with that mindset you'll enjoy it.

Max 2 has the best gameplay, Max 1 has the best plot, Max 3 is a little bit of both but just doesn't do it for me.

Honestly I kinda wish they went for the "Valkyr turns you into a crazy ass mutant looking fool" plot in the original trailers; blowing away both goons and muties John Woo style is such a cool idea to me.

i thought he only looked ps2 in game he looks like he's a ps2 character in real life his face graphics suck like tomb raider tits too edgy.

Max Payne is probably my favorite video game trilogy. I love replaying all three games every now and then, picking up on subtle details in the world and in the story. The series has a deceptively simple story but its rich in detail. The world feels alive and adds dimension to the characters and events. And that's just the story, the stuff piecing the gameplay together, which is frantic and fun as hell.

The first one's probably my favorite because I'm a sucker for crime revenge stories. It's probably the most difficult one too and there are a few sections that are outright cheap, but I still adore diving through doors, scoring headshots as I fly through the air before quickly getting back up to finish off the stragglers. I didn't care much for 2's story at first primarily because of the twist villain (I still don't care for that twist very much), but as time went on I came to appreciate the sheer level of detail and subtlety with Max's character. It's the kind of game where you could replay it and start to pick up more on the inner workings on the characters, and even if I don't care for the villain the climax is wonderful in spite of it. I also like 3 more than most. I understand why people don't, especially with the eternal cutscenes that would make Kojima blush plus the sad-sack direction Max's character goes in, but the cutscenes are exquisitely put together and while the story's probably not as good as the first two, it's still an engagingly dark tale. The shooting's also the most visceral I've ever seen in any shooter ever, which elevates it above the rest of the cover-based shooters that came out around that time.

Sin might have stolen the drug-mutant thunder from them. Did they really turn into mutants in old MP trailers? I remember the ultra big hulking dudes but read them as huge goon enforcers.

Exactly right about Max 1 having by far the best plot. In 2020 people joke about this being the end times and the end of the world was built up in Max 1 in a way that I really got sucked into. After a while I actually expected that there would be this big turning point in the game where the norse mythology was no longer just names of people and places. Not fighting mythical beings or directly encountering any of them but maybe there would be a shape of what could be Fenrir moving on the other side of the bay and sudden streaks of light in high up in the sky as if Thor was riding his chariot and cracking skulls. Down on the streets stands the human Max Payne realizing that his revenge doesn't matter but it's all he's got so he keeps trudging forward through the blizzard.
No god have ever known or cared who Max Payne is, it seems fitting for his character.

I love the first 2 games, but I still need to play the third one.

I fucking love the whole style of those first 2 games, yes a lot of the dialog is ridiculous, but that's the point, there's so many phrases that stick with me like "the fear that gives men wings", they're some of the best written games ever made even if they're kind of supposed to be parodies.

I've not played the second game since 2010 and the original game since 2013, one of these days I need to replay them again and finally play the third game.
