Meal Replacements - I Can't Believe It's Not Food -

I'm interested in the concept of meal replacements. Not for like, an entire diet, but maybe once a day. The ones I'm aware of are Soylent, Huel, and Meal Squares.

The only one I've actually tried so far is Meal Squares. They're... edible. It tastes like dense bread with chocolate chips inside it, if chocolate tasted like vegetables. I don't know anything beyond what's common knowledge as far as nutrition, so I can't really offer anything useful there.

Soylent seems... weirdly cultish. I have no idea WHY that's the case, but every time I start reading about Soylent I feel like I'm about to be black bagged and carried off to a compound somewhere. I'm not sure if that's a good reason not to buy it, but it's what I'm going with.

I'm thinking pretty hard about buying some Huel though. Problem is, there's no sampler pack. So you really gotta go for it or not. A pack is like $75, which isn't a catastrophic amount of money for me, but it's enough to give me pause.

Anybody have any experience with these or other, similar products?

From what I saw, stay away from soylent. Look up Narsissa Wright if you want an endstate for someone that consumes that crap.

This is a bit off what you are thinking about but have you ever tried MREs? They work well as fire and forget meals and are self contained.

MREs are delicious, but way too expensive for long term use, especially right now. They're also not really meant to be eaten long term in general.

You can make meal replacement shakes and bars pretty easily at home. Plenty of recipes online to fit any diet (keto/vegan/starchsolution/scat/eliteschildblood). Most importantly you can control the quality of the ingredients, and either say fuck health and buy cheap nasty shit, or treat your body like the temple it most certainly isn't and buy decent shit.

But as a Murcan, just buy a case of ensure from the grocery store you mong and be lazy like the rest of us.

Why do you want to replace meals? If it's about time management or saving money try prepping your lunches for the coming week in the weekends. The stuff you mentioned is absolutely vile industrial waste marketed to midwits as meal replacements.
Because I hate cooking, and also food, but I'm trying to be more healthy.
I like these guys, the chocolate flavour, add a banana or some fruit etc, good to go https://holfood.com/, price has gone up like $20 since covid started though :/
That looks pretty close to what I want, I'll check it out.
Just replace your meal with nothing, it's much cheaper.
If I could do this for every meal and not literally die, I would.

Then eat a fucking apple. An apple is a ready-made meal replacement full of vitamins that will make you shit better, you can buy them in singles if you want to sample whether a given apple strain is tasty for you, and they are significantly cheaper than the different brands of pig slop you're considering.

If you don't have enough time in the day to consume your required caloric intake because you're so busy and incredibly buff, try adding some oats to your protein shakes. But we both know that's not the case.

Are there any recommended whey protein powders?
Look at the ingredients, if it's 100% whey protein isolate then it's good.

Also how much fruit can you put in them?
Three fruits, any more and they can explode.

This isn't a bad idea. Intermittent fasting can actually feel pretty good for certain people. Thing is that most people don't know if they are that kind of person until they actually try it out, or have family members who just happened to adopt that eating pattern before IF was a thing.

I agree with @GrotesqueBushes on the protein isolate thing. If you're cool with going more low-carb, check out Orgain Keto, too.

12 pack of beer is my go to meal replacement.

There is alot of healthy frozen and premade meals, especially at places like Costco. Camping food is good, but it can be pricey.

Tons of tasty ready meals for a few bucks at the supermarket ... it's basically the same meals you find in a MRE (retort pouches etc), but at a better price.

My faves are Tasty Bites and MTR foods (both with Asian spices). If you can't find them at the supermarket then just find an Indian/Asian grocery store
