Mega Man General Thread - The franchise returns after eight long years of chaos and confusion at Capcom

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

They did this as a way to make Keiji Inafune look even more stupid.

The fans are already complaining:

People are hard-wired to bitch so I'm not surprised. From what little there is it looks fine, but not outstanding. I would have prefered if they took the franchise in a new direction like they did with Battle Network or Legends and just considered the original series done. I'll give it points if this is the game that finally ties together the classic and the X games though.

Personally, I think art style-wise the game looks fine. It seems to me like an evolution of the sprites in 8 (which also had lankier designs than what we’re used to to boot). As long as we don’t have any more pizza explosions like in Mighty No. 9 I’m good.

Gameplay looks like standard Mega Man, but hey, innovation is probably the last thing you should expect from this series. Besides, the classic series has never really had a bad game (II on the Game Boy and & Bass are probably the closest we’ll get, and the first game is just wonky), so I don’t think it’ll turn out bad at all.

I understand why some fans might be disappointed that this isn’t X9 or a revived Legends 3, but since I’d imagine that Capcom’s confidence with the franchise is at an all-time low, they’re probably using this game as a means of testing the waters. If it turns out good, maybe then they could move on to X9/Legends 3/whatever.

I was kinda hoping for a big crossover game between all the different Mega Man series (That isn't a crappy mobile game), But I guess this will have to do for now.

Almost all of them were just joking, there were even some people that thanked Inafune for fucking Mighty number 9 in a very spectacular way so capcom would not repeat the same mistakes

They tried that with XOVER to the point that was added to the timeline in the stream, so in some way or another that thing is canon

8bit-style pixel art or fuck off tbh

The devs said that at first it was going to be 8 bit but then decided to swap for 2.5D, is not the first time, Capcom tried to do this back in the day when they were rebooting Megaman (Megaman Powered up) and Megaman X (Megaman: Maverick Hunter X)

Im very happy for at least having something and they finally decided to announced considering how a monumental disaster was the Tokyo game show stream (they just showed merchandising like clocks, t-shirts and a weird pajama)

But im sad because i betted that there was going to be pachinkos and lost now i have to pay (:_(

Considering a lot of focus was put on both the classic series and the X series, it's definitely possible. They probably expect us to play both series back to back now that they'll be so readily accessible, and then 11 will come along as the bridge game between the two.

At the same time, though, I don't think Capcom wants to end any of the series that have yet to see a definite conclusion. The only options we were given up until now pretty much were a new classic game, a new X game, and a new Legends game. And it's not in spite of but precisely because of the debacle that took place post-X5 (for those who are unaware, Inafune intended on capping the X series off at X5 and moving on to the Zero series until Capcom decided to rush out X6, an unbalanced, unpolished clusterfuck of a game, for release just a year after the previous one). Plus, there was a survey in Japan last year that hinted at a Mega Man 11 and a rerelease of one of the non-classic series (most likely X), which were exactly what was just announced.

If they do another game in the X series, I wonder if it'll possibly cover the Elf Wars as depicted in the Zero series. It'll be a nice way to tie up that series.

I like that his design changes with the weapons now.

Protodude of the Rockman Corner, just a few months ago, spotted artwork in the second Legacy Collection that had nothing to do with any of the first ten classic titles, suspecting that something was up.

Agreed. I'd like to see a game that ends the X series for good this time. Also, I want a closure on...

what the fuck happened to Axl at the end of X8.
