Konnichiwa, Kiwis! Today I want to share with you an exciting little thing I picked up at World Market. I get way too excited about Japanese snacks and candies because once a weeb always a weeb, so the Popin' Cookin sets are exactly the kind of thing I like. BrutalMoose did a video on the burger and fries set, and I did look for that one. I chose this one because for maximum weeb points.

I was also happy to see that the instructions are in English, as when BrutalMoose made his video he had to use a translation app that gave him instructions like "introduce water with great justice".
You know, this whole set is going to be awfully small for my little stubby fingers, maybe I need the help of someone smaller-

Oh shit, who's that bad lizard poppin a sick manual? It's Gor-Gor, here to help!
Now let's get started.

Each set contains all the things you need to make kawaii little meals, with exception of water for mixing and scissors for cutting up the plastic tray for mixing/molding. Each packet contains mystery powder that magically turns into food, representing hundreds of years of Japanese engineering. Their government is trying to use similar technology to efficiently build housing units but so far every powdered house comes out Hello Kitty themed.

So the first step is to prep the mango pudding. Gor-Gor will be handling this. I'm assuming this is some type of fast setting gelatin powder as this will need 10 minutes to sit once it has been mixed up.

Next step is to mix the dough powder for a few different things, just add water to the other mystery powder and you get this sticky dough pile. We are going to divide that bad boy up and load two disks of dough into our calzone squisher, fill them with whatever this stuff is, and fold the dough into a little pocket.

So now we have dumplings and spring rolls, plus a half egg and narutomaki. Gor-Gor's T-Rex arms did result in some awkward rolling.

Dino Boy is on noodle duty now, and I've mixed up some delicious ramen broth that smells so...weird. It smells like flat cola. Some of these kits are all sweet and some are savory, and it's looking like we've got ourselves some dessert ramen.

Now it's time for the most exciting step, NOODLE EXTRUSION!!

Noodle mix got put into a bag where we then poked a hole to facilitate proper extrusion. I also noticed by this point that I needed to cut more off of the plastic so we have a proper bowl.

Doesn't that look like a tasty little cup of noods? I don't know what kind of Japanese science was involved but this actually looks a hell of a lot like noodles.
And with that-

Here is the finished product! The inside packaging makes for a cute little serving tray to put our goodies on. Gor-Gor has his chopsticks and is ready for a taste. So how does it all taste?
-The dumpling and spring rolls are the texture of mochi, so I think it's some kind of rice flour. The filling is some kind of crunchy sprinkles that almost taste like fruity pebbles. Just like real spring rolls!
-The ramen is weird. The broth is in fact some kind of cola but the noodles somehow have the same texture as top ramen. I bet if you made some noodles by cooking them in Dr. Pepper you could create a similar dish. It looks cute AF though.
-The mango pudding is like a big mango gummy snack, only softer. It's the least jarring thing in the set because it's something you expect to be sweet.
Overall a fun, cute, and weirdly satisfying activity. Gor-Gor was hoping for something savory so I'll keep my eye out for the burger kit or another savory one.
