Metal Elitists -

To be fair, there's a point in saying that Acid Jazz isn't 'true and honest' jazz, due to most of it just being funk, soul, or even hip-hop with jazz influences. Sampling Miles doesn't make you a jazz artist, and that's most certainly not dissing any Acid Jazz, it's just that a lot of groups that were previously described as Acid-Jazz just... Don't do much jazz in their work.

Smooth Jazz has more to do with Kenny G making one big fuckup, and the genre of smooth jazz becoming the arguable face of modern jazz while the focus of Smooth Jazz is on being music you don't have to focus on. That's pretty damn degrading, and usually Jazz is the most accepting of weirdo spinoff genres. There was a bit of an uproar when the PBS documentary 'Jazz' focused mostly on the Dixieland style of jazz, and furthermore mostly on Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong, while treating such apparent sins as modal jazz, avant-garde jazz, and Miles Davis' solo work as a dark period.

Well it's kind of a similar thing with Nu Metal and Metalcore and metal elitists getting all pissed off and screaming at their computer screens. They'll say stuff like "Nu Metal is not metal cause it doesn't have any solos" or "Metalcore is not metal cause it's emo" or shit like that. The problem is, while that statements may be true for some bands, they're not for others. And they produce an unfair generalization.

I don't see why we can't just enjoy the music we enjoy.
I love black , death, doom, speed, whatever metal to be honest.
Oh and couple that with the fact I've been going to raves since the early 90s I sort of don't really fit into any metal mould.
I just like what I like.

Most elitists really hate deathcore in my experience since it's got a lot of cross-pollination with hardcore emo and scene kid music, as far as I can tell. I'm pretty picky with Deathcore but, uh, video aside that song's pretty good IMO.

Yeah IA always do it right. I come for the shticky "we wanna sow your baby back up in your womb" stuff, and stay for the technicality.

As far as elitism and Deathcore, I think it has to do with scene/aesthetic over everything else. Why else would all these faggots have rotting floppy earlobes from gauges? Same reason people did dumb shit during the punk scene.

They've also seemingly forgotten all the mainstream 80s metal bands that only sang about partying and drugs and women (though I guess that's not "real" metal or whatever)
Not even just them. One of my favorite Thrash albums is literally called 'The Art of Partying'.

Most 'mainstream' metal groups I know of are fond of huge amounts of beer and partying. Hell, I remember Jonne Jarvela of Korpiklaani getting in a ton of trouble for emptying an entire fridge of Beer meant for the bands during a show, drinking some of it, and then tossing the rest out to fans. :P

Honestly, I don't think there's a single drug-free genre of music, but I know Metal certainly ain't it.
