Once heard a saying, "the fancier the uniform, the less able the military". Don't care for dress/dress-type uniforms with all sorts of badges and ribbons on them. Look at some US Army members' uniforms and you doubt if they have any place to put any more badges, etc. Like the SS uniforms. Not overloaded. Personally, at that time didn't need to put much on the dress uniform, just rank, name tag, U.S.'es, ribbons, and two badges max. In uniforms, less is indeed more. The more you wear on the uniform, the more stuff to put on properly and take off.
I heard a similar saying, but that the higher the peak of a peaked cap, the poorer the army. I can't really agree that your saying applies though, since Napoleon captured half of Europe in those fancy blue uniforms, while the British conquered a quarter of the globe in their red coats.

If you ever want to see a Wehrmacht parade in real-life, go to Chile:

The Chileans seem to have a lot of snappy uniforms.

Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia seemed to really love her Hussar uniform. There are a lot of pictures of her wearing it. I can see why. It's quite a look.

With Crown Princess Cecilie, also wearing a uniform, although not as striking as the Hussar one IMO:

She was an honorary colonel, although obviously she never actually was in combat. Considering the black, the huge skull emblem, and the outfit's connection to death, does this make her the original goth GF?

Here she is in more traditional feminine clothing, for comparison. The woman definitely had style.

If Franco saw what happened to his legion he'd probably come back from the grave and start another Civil War
Actually that was always their uniform.

The reason is because before the civil war they were the AFRICA legion. They were stationed in morocco, if you check uniforms for colonial forces they all look like the motherfucking Village People. But during the civil war the africa legion was the only one to side with franco, and so they became the ONLY legion after the civil war, and franco never bothered changing their uniforms.

So yeah, he knew damn well how they looked. He led them to war in that very uniform.

You laugh now, but when a bunch of spanish legion beat your ass and show of their muscles, you better watch your ass.
Oh I ain't saying they're not good soldiers. If we go by Uncle Joe's theory that the fancier the uniform the weaker the military the Spanish Army must be absolutely invincible! 'Cause god damn. It got so much gayer with time.

Even the female militias looked less effeminate!

I remember when reading about Franco, he was an officer of a Moroccan unit in the 1910's and was one of seven officers from an original 42 to survive the posting in three years. Even crazier, he was shot in the gut, and according to the doctors he only survived because he he had taken a breath before he was shot, so it only grazed his liver and didn't touch any intestines. Because of that, the Moroccans said he had Baraka, or really good luck, and stood with him for decades because following a man as blessed and lucky as that is a good idea. Some even claimed he was touched by Allah, which must have amused a man as Catholic as Franco!

And considering he survived both Rif wars, the Civil War, staying neutral in WW2, not getting toppled by the Allies in the aftermath when Stalin was autist-screeching about taking him out, joining NATO, allowing the Spanish miracle to happen, and being able to appoint a successor that despite Franco's best efforts to keep an autocratic monarchy, turned Spain to democratic monarchism, I would say the Moroccans were probably right.

By the way those Moroccan Regiments still exist, they're called Regulares, and their uniforms look much better than the Legions.

Most of that was less luck and more being a complete and total sellout, and the "spanish miracle" was a bubble which crashed into one of the worst economic crisis in our history (the 70s depression, from which spain never recovered) but hey, details.

That aside. If any one you is wondering if you've seen the Regulares before. They're the ones from the "me and the boys on our way to (insert brag here) on the poors" meme that got semi-famous on gun groups due to H&Ks ridiculous prices. That's probably why you kinda remember them.
