Informative post.Portuguese speaking Jews are largely Sephardi (from Spain and Portugal). Neither Altman nor Yaniv are Sephardi names. Also, iirc Jonathan claimed his grandfather wasPortugueseBrazilian , so his surname would likely have been Sephardi, not Ashkenazi.
..but they speak Portuguese in Brazil, so I'm not sure if the Sephardi speculation would even apply here.
Regardless of their origins, if Yitzhak and Miriam lived in Brazil, they'd most likely be able to speak Portuguese.
That, in itself, wouldn't make them "Portuguese", nor would it necessarily make them "Brazilian" (like Jonny has claimed).
"My grandfather was from Brazil", is probly more accurate than "My grandfather was Brazilian"... but the former doesn't play the racial card like the latter does.
