One glaring plot hole I found in Misery: HOW THE FUCK DOES ANNIE WILKES SUPPORT HERSELF? WE NEVER SEE HER WORK!

How the hell does she afford to keep her home, her pig, Misery novels, etc., if she has no source of income?

Such a good movie. I will forever have James Caan as my signature.

That is...a very good question. I'll have to reread the novel, see if they answer it there (I don't think they do though...maybe something to do with her livestock?)

She lives thiftly. which is why she buys the crappy typewriter for him. Also, she uses Paul's money to pay her lien off. I assume her job of head nurse paid well, and with her massive stockpile of stolen drugs I don't see how she would have issues getting by living cheaply as she does.

Plus, with her reputation I doubt anyone would hire her.

I always assumed she inherited her money.

Anyway, next to "Stand By Me," "Misery" is probably the best adaption of a Stephen King book ever made.

When I read the novel, I assumed she was a small-scale farmer, probably defrauding social security to pay the bills. Maybe she had some surplus cash from when she was a nurse.

She could be living off a life insurance payout from her murdered husband.

A one month bump's no big deal, right?

two words

Shawshank. Redemption

(although stand by me and misery are some of my faves)

.... also two more words

The. Shining

(although kubricks interpretation was pretty far gone from the book)

"Pet Semetary" is also pretty faithful to the novel.

She's a retired Nurse. She was forced to retire after a string of suspicious deaths of patients under her care.

Also, she supports herself because it's a story about a crazy woman. How she buys or affords things is irrelevant to the plot, and is excluded.

If being head nurse really paid that well, I'm sure she was able to live pretty comfortably off those Dead Presidents and the life insurance from her murdered hubby.

I ran into the same problem with The Big Lebowski. Just how the hell does the Dude keep the lights on if he's unemployed? How is he even getting by?

She never murdered her husband. She divorced him. Or rather, he divorced her. Maybe she was living on alimony.
