More specifically, Misty claims her disability is due to either her knee (which she injured as a child), or her TIA, which occurred long after her service ended.

Misty is no stranger to gathering up social security checks: Lamonte, Tricia, Aurora AND Richard were getting aid for various reported "disabilities". As has been mentioned before, this is a common tactic among white trash to gather long term cash welfare benefits, which are otherwise given only in food and housing vouchers in most states.

My guess is also that Misty's disability is mental illness based, rather than military benefits.

So pretty much “I miss my children” is really “I miss my children’s checks”. Not even a little surprised. Am hoping that Tricia still has some path to communication with Aurora and makes sure Aurora doesn’t become JANI version 2.

Honestly, Aurora has some serious issues herself. Tricia needs to stay away from all of them and just live her life. Misty could easily manipulate Aurora into speaking to or attacking Tricia on her behalf and the girl just does not need that bullshit while she's trying to recover from being raised by two shitty parents.

She gets her cats high. Edit: at 5:15 we can see the hole in her kitchen wall to the lean-to. It's truly just a straight up giant hole that she covers at night with some plywood and a blanket.

By the time Aurora leaves the foster care system, she will have had a few years clear of her mother's insanity, her filth, her hoard, her vermin, and her neglect. I don't think Aurora has any fond memories of living in Misty's house and I doubt that she'll willingly return to it.

I feel pretty good about Richard. He's had a hard childhood but he's still young enough to rebound from that. I don't think his foster family allows any contact with Misty, which is great. Misty claims she has regular meetings with both Richard and Aurora but that is assuredly a lie. CPS has documented sexually abusive behavior from Misty towards Richard. I recall Misty once posted the name of the shrink that Richard is seeing at the behest of CPS and I did some research on them. They specialize in childhood abuse/neglect cases, and their specific specialty is sexual abuse. There are a lot of reasons to be more optimistic about Richard's future.

In the middle of the country, where you didn’t have big federally funded housing projects built like you did on costal cities, you have the problem of “HUD hoods” - think ghettos without big housing projects.

Basically a rundown old working class section of a town starts getting bought up by slumlords. They fix up cheap houses just enough to get “HUD approval” and then rent to people with HUD waivers. The fed govt pays a relatively high rent to you every month for you to allow the renters to trash your rental property. Soon 70 % of a block will be HUD rental homes and nobody who can afford a mortgage or pays cash rent will live anywhere near HUD section of town. Usually half-way houses, group homes and addiction treatment centers move into the area too.

Then many of the older home owners in the area start dying off and the families just throw away the houses for next to nothing because they are old homes in bad neighborhoods so the slumlords buy them cheap, do a few renovations, get HUD approval and tada another HUD home added to the block.

The added incentive is slumlords can ask rent rates for these homes that absolutely nobody paying cash rent would dream of paying to live in the ghetto, but someone with a “HUD waiver” only has to think in terms of paying 10% or less of the listed rent rate so what do they care a landlord is asking $1500 a month for a crap heap in the worst part of town. HUD pays $1375 and they pay $125. The downside to all of this is having to deal with some of the worst tenants on earth, your property getting trashed with every move out and govt red tape. However, plenty of corporations make a fine living by buying and managing dozens of HUD houses.

Misty is the exception to this rule because once she’s out of the house it will just be demolished. Easier to bulldoze and build new than deal with the disaster that is her derelict home.

I was once denied a lease renewal because I paid $750 a month for decent cape cod but it was in the hood....so the owner figured out he could get $1000 a month rent if he got HUD people. Sounds like a lot of rent but these tenants trash the houses and every time one leaves, the homes have to be gutted. Losing money.

Yes. Everyone in the Hillbilly Hydra is. Misty was merrily leading this band of tards around by the nose for a few years (Melissa Zayas, Cammy, Cheyenne, etc). But even they wised up and moved on eventually. And now Misty is all alone with her thoughts, her hoard, her band of flea ridden neglected animals, and her sped boyfriend.

Cheyenne was dating / roommates with Cammy in Oklahoma City for a while, but they got into trouble with the landlord for trashing the place. Since then, Cammy has lived with her parents and we haven't heard anything about Cheyenne.

I’m getting the idea that if Musty spends a lot of time in the plywood palace because it’s the only area of the shit shack with any air circulation. The house doesn’t have modern HVAC, any AC window units she might have probably barely work, so the old mildly house it probably a sauna all summer. Opening the sliding door in the plywood lean-to is the only way she gets any significant fresh air flow.

No doubt she managed to paint shut all her windows. Given the state of that house, the warping, settling, water damage, etc…she probably couldn’t open the windows anyway or if she opened them they’d never shut again. Her only other option for fresh air is to keep her front door open. So Musty sits in the lean too, sliding door open, with electric fans aimed squarely at her fat ass baking in crusty recliner.

It mostly happens to houses in the ghetto. If property values are rapidly falling then squeezing more rent via HUD out of it before it’s worthless and in need of major renovation investment is what most landlords do. If property values are rising get HUD renters out of there becomes the priority.

Rental properties suddenly accepting HUD waivers in a neighborhood is a canary in the coal mine. Once one or two do it a domino effect begins, due in no small part on how much bad shit a few trashy renters can attract to a neighborhood.

Calling around to find out which areas in a city had properties that accepted HUD was better than looking a crime stats to figure out which areas to avoid when moving to a new city or area. It was one of those great tips someone gave me early on. It applies just as much to renting as to buying too.

Not quite: the vast majority of the windows in her house have been broken and covered with plywood for years. Instead of attempting to repair any of the windows in her home, she spent cash on new windows that were installed - crooked - in the lean-to.

Her "investments" in her property are as insane as the rest of her ideas. She did un-hoard her kitchen and bathroom and had some quick repairs made in an attempt to prove to DCFS that she was capable of providing a livable home for the kids (it still lacked hot running water for a further two years but that wasn't a priority for her I guess). But after that, she stopped trying.

Her back porch folly has made no sense when the home still needed wiring brought up to code and the bedrooms un-hoarded. She eventually dumped all the hoard in the room she expected Aurora and Richard to share - see, Richard was usually sleeping with Bad Touch Mama, so to Misty it didn't matter much about them having to share at inappropriate ages - but only after she lost parental rights. And she never attempted to anything about the first floor bedroom full of hoard and with a collapsed ceiling.

But the house has to be an oven in the summers, and an icebox through the winters. And her big decorating plan of buying dozens of cheap plastic fleece blankets and layering them over the furniture for more vermin to fund purchase in doesn't help the smell I'm sure.
