Didn't see a thread about this subject in particular, so fuck it, let's put this potential trainwreck in motion.

Been experimenting lately with gin due to a favorite cocktail of mine disappearing from a local bar and grill. Think I've kind of hit on a decent recipe, though I think it has room for improvement (and I get the impression someone somewhere had the same idea I did but I don't really see it anywhere)

1.5-2 fl. oz gin (I used a novelty shotglass to measure, so this is kind of guesstimation here.)
4 fl. oz limeade or something similar (Penafiel Limonada works well, its carbonation is so minimal that I can do this in a cocktail shaker without hilariously stupid results.)
Crushed ice
Some fresh cilantro
Little bit of golden light agave syrup (think about 1/4 tsp, shit's fairly sweet)

Put cilantro in your cocktail shaker and muddle it. Once that's done, add some crushed ice, think at least a cup's worth. Add agave, gin and limeade. Shake that fucker like an unwanted baby and strain it into a lowball glass, garnish with a cilantro sprig and lime wedge on the rim if you want to be a fag. Little on the bitch-drink side but it's fucking nice on a hot day.

So this is an old favorite of mine:

Corpse Reviver #2

1 oz. gin (I recommend Death's Door gin, if you can find it)
1 oz. Cointreau
1 oz. Lillet Blanc
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 dash absinthe
Tools: shaker, strainer
Glass: cocktail
Garnish: orange peel

Shake all ingredients with ice, strain into a chilled glass and garnish

I'm honestly not the biggest fan of Fireball but putting fucking Coffeemate in a mixer is so fucking reprehensible it beggars belief.

I've had this saved on my computer for years, all for this day.
Screwdrivers are one of those cocktails that you have to try REALLY hard to screw up. I'm partial to Greyhounds and Salty Dogs but no one fucking mixes them anymore.

Not gonna lie though Rumchata and Fireball is a huge guilty pleasure of mine.
Rumchata is really tasty honestly, but its reputation precedes it in the form of a stupid-high markup at some stores (because college kids apparently have no grasp of money). My guilty pleasure has always been Malibu (esp. with pineapple juice) - the absolute king (queen?) of bitch-drinks but it tastes so fucking good.

I was on a big bloody mary kick for a while. Usually used jalapeno brine instead of olive, also wasabi instead of horseradish.
Played a bit with Maggi instead of worstichire sauce, worked well but it needs like half a drop, so I'd pour a drop in a shot glass and go from there. Too hard to reliably dose it though, especially after drinking the first one. A full drop of Maggi was kinda yuck.
Also rolling worked better than stirring. Making sure the ice is fresh is a big help too.

Bloody Marys (or Marias if you're a freak who prefers tequila) are tasty as fuck but they're practically a meal by themselves, especially if you get silly with the garnishes.

Regarding ice: don't use a fridge's icemaker for this shit. Use an icetray, with a sealing lid. Heat the water to a soft boil once, then turn it down and do it again after a couple minutes. Let cool just a bit, pour into the tray, seal and throw it in. Works reasonably well, usually gets you reasonably clear ice that doesn't taste like ass.

Personally fond of Old-Fashioneds but I haven't had a bottle of angostura bitters lying around for years. Restaurant nearby decided to try and make Old-Fashioneds hip by throwing in creme de cacao and cherry liqueur.

I don't think they understand what the point of an Old-Fashioned is.

Apparently my usual market and attached liquor store is staffed by plebs because they don't have bitters that I've seen. The good liquor store downtown DID, but they closed up shop. Might get a wild hair and try one of the many hipsterish organic markets nearby, they'd probably have them.

EDIT: It's weird because the market has at least 3 different kinds of fucking grenadine but no bitters. I guess people here really fucking like Tequila Sunrises.
