Mosquito burgers -

Bugburgers are the food of the future if we're going to survive as a species with the rate of population growth we've been having. Why waste a ton of time and resources growing beef or pork for meat if you can grow a bazillion bugs or krill in a tank and just process them into protein rich bugpaste.

Well it's a step up from eating mud and clay, I guess.
Disagree, making it out of mosquitos really makes it an everythingburger. Cooking improperly (and even properly for some stuff) could turn these into a hell of disease vector.

edit: Watched video, looks fake.
edit2: Read more of the article, they aren't even actual mosquitos so there goes the disease vector issue, but I still say it looks fake.

I would prefer it to ebola infected bush meat.

I remember the whole insectavoid thing being a meme but I can't quite remember why. Part of it is obviously that the only thing we get from meat isn't protein.

I have eaten a rehydrated cricket protein patty before and can say that it doesn't taste bad at all. It's like tofu that was cooked in mushrooms with some artificial smoke and beef bouillon.
I've heard of cricket powder being used as a flower too.
Pretty nutritious, but good luck convincing people it isn't gross.

I tried crickets last summer. They weren't terrible. They tasted kind of nutty, but they'd be something I'd eat only if I didn't have anything else, not something I'd seek out.

I disagree. "We" are fine. "They" are fucked. This is because developed societies practice modern agriculture and have birthrates near or below replacement level. Third world shitholes have astronomical birthrates in a society full of peasant subsistence farmers. They are the ones who are screwed.

We don't need to eat bugs because we already have lots of domesticated animals we specifically breed to serve that purpose. Cows, sheep, and other ruminants derive nutrition from grass and other inedible material making stuff that we can grow on less desirable land into nutritious food. Pigs have a digestive system not unlike ours so we can feed them half-spoiled processing byproducts like pea pods and apple cores. Chickens, well, we can feed them bugs and kelp because they are dumb as hell and don't care.

If we as a society are forced to eat only protein-replacement garbage that is only considered suitable for livestock feed, we have a serious problem in agriculture. It went through some kind of catastrophic collapse or something and chances are transportation, manufacturing, finance, and industry aren't far behind. We are totally boned and the tastiness of bugburgers is the least of our worries.
