Thread is pretty simple. Post words and phrases that annoy you. Doesn’t matter how old or new.

My personal least favorites:
  • Latinx- exceptional way of saying Latino
  • Queer- one of the most over-used words on Tumblr
  • Literally-overused and misused
  • “In a hot minute”- an Amberism that gets on my nerves
  • LGBTQIA+- didn’t bother me as much until it became so ubiquitous. The more letters that keep being added on, the more annoying it gets
  • Non-binary- I blame Riley Dennis for this
  • -phobia- rarely used to mean actual fear. Used for things like “Islamophobia” and “homophobia”.
  • POC- an exceptional way of saying “non-whites”
  • Oppression- Tumblr made this word a joke
  • Alt-right- media buzzword that’s used for everyone right of Bernie Sanders

I.. I just hate the phase "You are valid" so much. You're not valid, your xe zer zipadedoda pronouns aren't valid, your made up characters that "live" in you head aren't valid, you're not valid if you say your a demiboy/girl or a semi truck.

"I'm out of spoons today." You seem to have 10,000 spoons when you post on the internet about it.

You are not valid, I am not valid, no one is valid. You need to justify your own validity to the 7 billion other people in the world, and if you can't do that, into the furnace you go, goes my philosophy :islamic:

people who use too many words for something that only needs a few. i once heard someone say 'as a self-identifying member of the LGBT community', like just say 'i'm a gay man'

business buzzwords like 'touch base with'
Or better yet, don't, because chances are its not relevant and only used for virtue signalling or asspat seeking

no in this case it was relevant, it was a college fair and I wanted to know what it was like being gay at this particular college. which maybe makes it worse?

tired of phrases that have become basically meaningless such as
-virtue signalling
-gaslighting
-emotional labor

I know someone like that.

"As a disabled, bisexual, biracial, veteran, WOC..."
oh man i hate 'woc' or 'poc'

like while there might be some situations where it is appropriate, 95% of the time it's bad. say 'black person' or 'asian women' or whatever. even from an sjw angle it's bad, because it results in white cubans and 1/8 native americans pretending like their experience is totally comparable to to someone who's very visibly non-white.

You have my full condolences.
Some words that drive me crazy are "alpha/beta," long irl story but every time I hear someone described as alpha or beta I can't help but think of :autism:
Oh and "as long as you're not hurting anyone" because I've unfortunately seen way too many lolcows use it to validate disgusting shit ("consensual" MAPs come to mind)

They clam to be half native half black, they're white as paper.

yeah
I get that some tribes have very low blood quantum requirements, and the current chief of the Cherokee nation is only 1/32 Cherokee. That's their right to determine who gets to be a member. But racially he's a white guy. You can argue all day long that race is a social construct, but you can't deny that someone who's visibly Native gets treated differently than someone who's not. All of this is the logical conclusion to the 'being white is bad, and being non-white is good' thought that exists in many bad left wing circles, and every time it winds up uncritically reproducing 19th century WASP ideas about race where Italians and people with a black great-grandmother aren't white. (And there's never any room for nuance or saying that some people are white some of the time but not always).

Anyone who does character replacements such as Amerikka, Demokkkrat, Republikkan, Micro$oft, or word additions like Rethuglican, Demoncrat, Whole Paycheck, whatever, it's annoying and juvenile.

Any white person north of the Mason-Dixon line using "Y'all."
"Just starting a conversation!"
An adult referring to their stomach as their "tummy." (This is rampant among HAES types.)
For some weird reason "veggies" for vegetables bugs me, but I guess I'm the only person on the planet bothered by this. Still hate it.

Pretty much everything everyone else has brought up, though I admit I've only ever seen "slay" used ironically.

I don't hate 'veggies', but I HATE 'veg'. Seeing 'fruits and veg' makes me SO mad.
