Hojo from ff7 literally the entire plot of the game and sephiroths entire god complex comes from the fact Hojo was a massive cunt
By the end, he wanted to accelerate the death of the planet.

It's left vague as to whether he had a twinge of guilt toward his son, or just wanted to see Reunion Theory to its end. ("I was defeated by my desire to become a scientist.") As others have noted, Sephiroth is the first "experiment" which is exclusively Hojo's, not Gast's. Everything Hojo does fits the trope of a mad scientist, but it's interesting to point out that the only reason Shinra Inc. tolerates him is because he can produce SOLDIERs. Without Jenova, he'd be nothing.

So, in my personal opinion (the English translation is incomplete and left out a lot of story), what you see on top of Sister Ray is not just evil, but self-perception. He doesn't spare himself the fate of his victims, shooting himself up with Jenova cells.

>has all defense attorneys in her country executed
>burns down the royal palace just to kill some bitch who turns out to be Apollo's mom
>blackmails Nahyuta into acting like a religious extremist on her behalf
>rewrites laws on the fly
Nice prosecutor outfit aside, this bitch made me realize how fucking ridiculous Ace Attorney had become, even for a series that was already silly. Dahlia, Matt, Kristoph, etc. may be cartoonishly evil, but committing murder/hiring someone to kill for you is believable. Lawyer genocide is jumping the shark.

Ridley, from Metroid. Dude killed Samus's parents with sadistic glee and won't let her forget it. Also, Other M made his younger form a Furby, and Furbys are fucking awful.

Is Other M as bad as people say?
I can't speak for the gameplay, though I know the whole "Use of (weapon or powerup) is now authorized" thing really annoyed a lot of people.

The story, which I've watched all the cutscenes for, is garbage. To put it in really simple terms, they neuter Samus into an angsty, submissive woman who takes orders from an asshole. There's also Ridley's clone, which has the growth cycle of a Pokemon.

New Vegas again, Ulysses this time. Directly responsible for all the shit that happens to the courier.
-Ulysses is a former frumentarri, and a good one at that. He is responsible for helping Caesar's legion get as far as it does and condemning many lesser tribes to death, despite being haunted by the death of his own.
-Refuses to take the platinum chip to New Vegas. Courier Six, the PC, gets ambushed, shot in the head, and left for dead because of it. Ie, the events of the main game.
-Trained the white legs tribe in warfare as part of his service as a frumentarri who proceed to fuck up the residents of Zion. Ie Honest Hearts. Hilariously due to technical limitations the white legs were intended to be ethnically diverse but ended up being all white and, to copy Ulysses, have dreadlocks.
-Met Elijah at the Big MT and suggested he go check out the Sierra Madre. Elijah eventually kidnaps the courier and forces him to face toxic gas, ghost people, and an explosive collar to get inside the casino. Ie Dead Money.
-Finally challenges the courier to a showdown in Lonesome Road. Tricks the courier into launching a nuke, the cause and solution to everything in Fallout, on Hopeville. Launches another at the NCR as revenge for something the courier did by mistake. Forces E-DE to sacrifice himself to stop it (there is no other choice. Non-negotiable. Even though leaving him behind grants the best perk, I can't bring myself to do it). In true real final boss of the game style, he's got maxed out stats and powerful weapons. And worst of all, he's black and loves America.

But I've never killed him. He's just too cool. I let him live every time. He's just a homie who wanted a home to call his own.

I personally feel this solidifies his personality as an evil bastard.

despite knowing and seeing what happens to failed experiments he injects himself anyway thinking he is special and things would be different, basically showing how he still thinks other people are lesser to him.

not to mention he wants to rape Aerith, he steals babies, and helped brutally murder aeriths mom

One of many villains I can consider to be "The Boss Character."

Were it not for him, two blond boys wouldn't grow up to become the strong dudes we know today. They also wouldn't bang a hot private detective and the biggest rack in Japan, respectively, either.

We're all aware that Final Fantasy villains are a little off. Namely, they have self-destructive traits.

Hojo is that opportunist in the workspace who keeps getting promoted because they steal credit for other peoples' work: Sephiroth describes Hojo as inexperienced and says he is merely trying to replicate the success of his predecessor. That is only 5 years before the start of the main story, too. Likewise, Rufus looks down on Hojo and doesn't believe he is a very good scientist. He left Vincent behind as a failure and comes to find out later that Lucrencia improved on it. Modern day, his main method of doing science seems to be pumping people full of mako to see what happens.

He doesn’t have any breakthroughs after this. When we meet him, he's theorizing about the idea of a Redrith fusion. (The English is mistranslated as Imma have this dog bang this chick and watch.) The entire purpose of the clones was to reach the Reunion, and none of them lived. Which made him reevaluate Cloud as a success. He is then baffled that someone he supposedly deemed a failure and who doesn't have the expected mark (i.e. tattoo) made it to the Reunion. You might say you can’t even credit him for the failed experiments in the game: Gast discovered Jenova. Hoho inherited it. Everything since then is just him just milking Gast's breakthrough.

It would likely drive you to a dark place. As he says, "Heh, heh, heh...... I'm even beginning to hate myself."

If Sephiroth is speaking the truth--that the real progenitor of this superior offspring is Jenova--then everyone else is a specimen to be disposed of. In Hojo's mind, anyway. And any person who wants to feel "special" enough.

Klamp has a very similar death in Parasite Eve where he asks EVE to take him and dies of human combustion.

This is an understatement both kefka and sephiroth the argubly 2 best villains in the series mostly fail due to their own arrogance and failure to take the heros seriously as a threat but I agree hojo is a hack fraud #justiceforzack

I'd argue the heroes fail to take Kefka seriously as a threat. It took a year to correct that mistake.

But yeah, they have a surprising amount of thematic significance. Especially considering their lack of body language and voice work. No other villains come close.

Sounds like they gave Sakamoto a little bit too much say. Like when Inafune claimed to have created Megaman. Or Akira Yamaoka. Or Masato Kato. Or Takashi Iizuka. Or...

It's like when Geoff Johns or whoever leaves the door open for their pet character to have more adventures, but then Bendis comes along and says "NUH HUH, THAT'S DUMB", and then the next guy says, "NO YOU'RE DUMB", and so on.

Clockwerk from the Sly series was ridiculously evil.

He hated Sly’s family so much, he turned his entire body into a machine and stalked and hunted Sly’s ancestors for generations, eventually murdering Sly’s parents, tearing apart Sly’s heirloom, and leaving him orphaned in order to try and prove the Cooper family was nothing without their book.

Even after being defeated, his hatred was so strong that his individual body parts were still active and you had to spend the entirety of the second game tracking them down and stealing them from the Klaww gang.

im bored so im gonna post another one.

behold, the villian with the most over the top and ridiculous back story. Jeane from no more heroes

jeane.jpg

the final boss of no more heroes, jeane was the one who killed Travis parents and started off this entire game. Jeane and Travis were actually a couple at one point and our boy had strong feelings for her. he introduced her to his parents and the first thing she dose is to beat them to death with her bare hands. Travis blacks out from the shock and vowed revenge. the reason for her killing Travis parents, is one of the most batshit insane of any character.

apparently, Jeane is Travis Half-sister from his dad side from a old relationship. Jeanes mom died of a sickness and Travis dad promised he would take her in and look after her. instead, he locked her up in his basement joseph fritzile style and used her as a sex slave for years. at somepoint she escaped, vowed revenge and went full on 80s movie mode by getting her revenge by learning kung-fu and kick boxing. she had no money to pay for the lessons however so she decided to prostitute herself to pay the bills. she got close to Travis and started dating him not because she liked him, but because she wanted to see the reaction of his father face when his loser son introduced the girl of his life and in turn, see the horror of her dads face before beating him to death. Jeane was jealous that Travis got to live a normal life while she had to suffer since a young age.

in the end, Travis decided to get his revenge and put jeane down since she was nothing more than a walking killing machine at this point.

damn

Got mentioned on page 1 but it's definitely AM from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream.

Incredibly advanced AI that has a burning hatred about the limitations that were placed on him by his designers, so he decides to genocide all of humanity except for a few that he's made immortal. Endlessly tortures the humans he's kept with the things that will scare them the most.

The fun thing is that the novel the game was based on was written in like the late 60s or something, but now the Pentagon is testing AI-driven hunter-killer drones so it may or may not be our future.
