Does anyone hate motivational speakers?

I do. I feel as if one should be able to use the advice of others to succeed, based on their own admission and experiences with other people, but I feel like it's really dumb to center yourself to be that filter for people that don't have the ability to discern their goals in life based on their own self-intuition. Usually, all motivational speakers are all the same. They use vague statements as well as "deep" symbolism to illustrate really simple points, but they cloud it around an aura of metaphorical figurative language to make it seem clever. I can get the appeal that people can use motivational speakers as a key to helping them out during bad times as I feel the purpose serves for religion, but honestly, what is really the point of motivational speaking anyway? Is it all a scam to reap money out of the vulnerable with their way of words?

(I'm not talking about people coming to speak at some sort of a conference to discuss a topic, btw. I'm talking about people who sell out arenas or make videos that are "spoken word" videos; shit like that)

I think motivational speakers have more or less fallen out of vogue well at least the kind that would sell you platitudes. I think people like Jordan Peterson are the motivational speaker 2.0 instead of selling platitude to desperate 30 somethings that have hit a wall in there life whether it be not being able to get another promotion, hard romantic life after a divorce, losing freinds. They are selling father/mother figures to 20 somethings with barely there parents.

With all that said I think they are all looking for a quick buck and know they are charismatic enough to charge large amounts because there audience is so vulnerable to psychological tricks. It's a very shady thing but it's not like its every going to go away sometime people want hear what they already know from someone else.

Have you seen gary vaynercuck? That fuck has a god awful book that constantly contradicts itself. Basically he "motivates" people to follow their dreams ie. spreads that feel good shit the current generation is famous for.

I will admit Sean Stephenson is someone people should see talking. He managed to get through life looking like a child who got run over by a truck and he allegedly got laid (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/...ssibly-satisfy-bed-says-awesome-sex-life.html). His marriage is apparently a sham though and he allegedly has fake credentials but whatever.

Edit: Sean died recently

Yes. I always associate these people with MLMs. There seems to be a certain kind of person that dumps a lot of money into these things and doesn't seem to be better for it, so it seems like a cheap high or way to feel you're improving your life without really doing anything but spending a lot of money. Many use cheap psychological tricks and are cult-y.

This probably applies to motivational stuff in general. I cringe at all the motivational stuff that's marketed at women, and it's largely snapped up by "boss babes" who want to feel important, but not actually get a real job or have an identity.

I used to read some motivational blogs in college and they were all very similar. The author did something notable and unusual that made some money at one point, and constantly referenced it as an example of following your dreams and earning money from them even though all the money was now coming from the blog and associated "classes". They would emphasize the importance of "investing in yourself" and how that's what rich people do, so buy their classes. They would also assure you that you're smart and not like other people because you're reading their advice. I never bought any of the classes and stopped reading those.

"BE A WINNER NOT A WHINER!"

"BE A DOER NOT A DON'TER!"

Yeah it reeks of all the same regurgitated shit from people who just want all that moolah by preying on weak and gullible people who think some random fag actually has something worthwhile for them.

It's quite the racket, I kind of wish I was charismatic enough to pull it off.

If the motivational speaker has actually done something in life, I don't mind. They may share problems they ran into and how you can avoid them. They can also pump you up. But if all they are doing is verbally masturbating, forget it. Their babble goes in one ear and out the other.

Depends on the Motivational Speaker I feel.

If they're giving you generally good life advice that's useful to everyone and comes from experience, like a person who got screwed up in a crash giving a speech to teens about not drinking and driving, it can work so long as the speaker doesn't go over the top in hammering it into peoples head.

I feel like some of these "Motivational Speakers" forget the saying "Brevity is the Soul of Wit", you can have an audience hanging onto your every word, but loose them because you start to ramble on and on and they just sort of...zone out because you won't shut up. Especially with how short of an attention span people generally have today, you got to keep your points and arguments short, yet precise and powerful.

I think that's a good way to seperate the good speakers from the bad ones, the good ones will be more concerned with getting their points across, the bad ones are thinking about how long they can stretch this out for extra money.
