Why did you think it was bad? I'll be honest in saying it was my favorite film of 2014.

It was okay, but I think people really oversold J.K Simmons' performance. All he did was yell a lot.

Why did you think it was bad? I'll be honest in saying it was my favorite film of 2014.

I didn't like the characters. Thought it was just two assholes battling it out. And the idea of trying to make it in Jazz in the current decade is ridiculous to me. Jazz is a pretty niche genre and the performers don't really make a lot of money or are popular (for the most part; see Kamasi Washington). Honestly, I might have cared for the characters more if this was a period piece instead. Not saying the acting was bad or anything.

If you wanna make your characters asshole (see Apocalypse Now [my favorite movie of all time BTW] or Trainspotting), it can work. Just make sure to give the audience a reason to care.

The entire point of the movie was that the characters were unlikable but ridiculously determined and passionate about their craft. And there are still famous jazz musicians out there who still get gigs.

And I'm not saying they don't. It just felt like the film was playing it up that the main character was going to be the greatest thing since Buddy Rich. I really just couldn't suspend my suspension of disbelief for that.

Interstellar was overrated and kinda dumb. Worst Nolan film by far.

In terms of animated movies, yeah. Zootopia was overrated.

Zootopia wasn't the only animated movie to be released in the last 10 years and even then overrated != shit.
I mean the racism themes kind of fell flat when Judy justifiably released information that all animals going insane are predator type animals and the movie somehow treats that like the worst thing ever, but overall everything before that was fairly enjoyable. Much more so than Moana.

Going by my IMDB ratings, No Country for Old Men is the only movie from 2007 to present I've rated a 9 or higher. So that, I guess.

New The Life of Others was released in 2006 but personally that's my pick.
