Annihilation (2018 ). I don't know how people can call it "deep and intellectual", when it can't get school level biology right.
WOKE Black Panther. This... Is just bad. Even by the comic book trash standarts. And this is going to happen again with Captain Marvel.
Thor: Ragnarok. I'm not sure that I've watched any other movie that tried to create a blunt comedy out of every dialogue or/and situation.

I didn't see him as autistic, he was smart enough to not want to draw any attention or eyes on himself because he's a sociopath and living as a criminal. Him stomping that guy to death shows how detached he is and the scorpion jacket really told you what he was.
(it's about Drive for anyone reading this, I liked the movie but as @Fuckoffdad says it released at the right time)
I'll admit to not being entirely serious about the whole autism thing although at the time of release a bunch of people were absolutely questioning whether or not he was supposed to be.. it was at least a talking point.

Some fun Drive/Blade Runner 2049 trivia for nerds:

Nic Refn's first north american feature was supposed to be a thriller starring Harrison Ford. He was mostly interested in doing it because Harrison's character was supposed to die at the end and Nic was keen to be the one to kill him off on screen. He moved over to a house in LA and along the way Harrison decided he didn't want his character to croak anymore and things fell apart.

The Drive script had been floating around Universal's lot for years and at one point Hugh Jackman was attached - it was going to be a Fast and Furious style action flick but things just didn't work out. At some point Gosling got hold of it and heard Refn was in town. He'd seen Valhalla Rising in the cinema, loved it and wanted to meet him. They set up a dinner meeting and it went terribly because Refn turned up late and with a heavy cold. He wasn't used to the strength of american meds and was basically high on them the entire time. After an awkward almost silent dinner Gosling said he would drive him back to his place.. resigned to the fact things wouldn't work out. To drown out the awkward silence in the car they put on the radio and REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling was playing.

High and miserable over the way things are going during his time in the US (and also missing his family who didn't come along with him) Refn starts crying there in his seat and starts singing along at the top of his lungs to the song and Gosling in the driver's seat thinks he's insane. Refn suggests they just keep driving around some more since Gosling knows LA well and through this process Refn realizes he knows how to make Drive: He wants to make a movie about a getaway driver who rides around at night listening to pop songs because it's the only way he can feel anything.

5 years later Ryan Gosling is Harrison Ford's (as well as Ridley Scott's) first choice/suggestion for the lead in the long gestating Blade Runner sequel - based largely on the strength of his performance in Drive. Nic Refn wanted to kill Harrison Ford and found Ryan Gosling instead. Gosling is told by the resistance in 2049 that he must kill Ford and instead chooses to save him. Somehow just seems like it was all meant to be.. and for some reason Harrison Ford just won't die.

Beauty and the Beast 2017: imdb 7.2, RT 71%, really have no idea why it is liked as much as it is, thought bad auto singing alone would have killed it.

Bugsy Malone: imdb 6.9, RT 84%, was made to watch in it class back a few time when I was around 9 years old, everyone else in the class seemed to enjoy it but I thought it was one of them dumb kids movies that just talked down to kids.

Spy Kids. imdb 5.5, RT 93%, feel the same way about this as I do with Bugsy Malone, however at least imdb rating isn't high this time. Also a painfully ugly movie, Robert Rodriguez should avoid making kids movie, each one he makes is worse than the last.

The Skeleton Twins: imdb 6.8, RT 87%. Just really uninteresting and unlikable characters, movie drags on and Bill Hader is fucking awful in it, his acting feels like he is trying to play a bad SNL character but seriously.

Valerie and Her Week of Wonders: imdb 7.1, RT 100%, fucking gross, felt like it was child porn, really unsure how the movie isn't banned nor why people like it.

13th, imdb 8,2, RT 97%, fuck any movie that makes Assata Shakur a cop killer to be a hero

Trainwreck, imdb 6.2, RT 85%, main issue is Amy Schumer isn't funny and can't act, her character has no redeeming qualities yet the movie tries to act like she does.

Tangerine, imdb 7.2, RT 97%, was shot on a iphone which led to the movie giving me a big headache but even with that I didn't find it funny nor the characters engaging

Happy Death Day, imdb 6,5, RT 71%, nothing worse than a unfunny comedy which this is.

The only Purge movie that was anyway half decent was the second. The first largely wasted its premise despite having a pretty good leading man i mean Ethan Hawke is a pretty good actor. The 3rd and 4th just sucked because they became a bit too topical.
Drive actually works as a pretty good encapsulation of the Obama era America.Everyone is dour and gloomy despite the fact that the cars are flashy and the skyline looks great in the distance.
One minor detail about RT scores they only measure the percentage of reviewers that gave a positive review to a movie meaning a score of around 6 and higher. In theory you can have an RT score of 100% but every reviewer scored that movie a 6,5/10.When it comes to RT scores its more important to watch the average score gave by reviewers to get a better handle.Basically the equivalent of reading the fine print in a contract.Problem is few people actually know what these scores mean and wrongly assume 95% on RT means universal acclaim.Actually it could mean 95% of critics rated that movie a 6,8/10 and 5% of reviewers gave it a 4/10.Personally Metacritic is better since its score represent the average of all the scores given by critics and not how many critics actually liked the movie.
For anyone wanting to get a general feel and not get bogged down in details on RT if a movie has above 86% combined with an average review score of 8/10 then its pretty much universally acclaimed. If its score is 86% or more but the average review is below 8/10 then its generally liked but not the 'best'.On Metacritic anything above 80/100 is universally acclaimed and anything between 65-79 is good.
For me overrated tend to be the MCU movies not all but quite a few.Except for Iron Man,The Avengers,Winter Soldier,Avengers:Infinity war ,Guardians 1 and almost Black Panther the others can easily get mixed up.Some are trully forgettable like Ant-Man.Then again if your competition is the DCEU its easy for Marvel to win.Even the worst MCU movie has no 'save Martha' moment. It does make me wonder when the 'superhero movie' will go out of style though.9/11 built the genre into what it is and the constant state of fear of the next 9/11 has kept the genre viable. But how long will it last?As long as the War on terror lasts?Or until the next 9/11 takes place. If 9/11 built the genre then the next 9/11 might destroy it????In theory it could if NYC got nuked i doubt anyone will ever again make a Spider-Man movie. It would be a bit too awkward afterwards.

I won't say I didn't like it but Hereditary wasn't as good as the critics said it was. It had potential but could have been way better.

Jacob's Ladder. I have no idea how I got it into my head that this was popular, but I thought it was a good catch when I saw it on Amazon Prime. Fucking assholes on the internet build up their cult movies to make them sound like major films. But I made it through the first half hour and I had some thoughts.

Thought 1. It's fucking Ghost meets Full Metal Jacket, but none of the actors make it up to the level of even the minor actors in either movie. Tim Robbins thinks the bad bush is a problem best tackled with some pruning shears.
Thought 2. Why does the film open with the spoooooooky scenario of Tim Robbins not being able to get out of a train station, so he slowly meanders down the tracks until SHOCK! HORROR! a train comes and there's some ghosties on it? I haven't seen many late-80s early-90s thrillers but this couldn't have been what put audiences on the edge of their seats back then.
Thought 3. Elizabeth Pena's wobbling tits add much to the film, but I was so keyed up to the bullshit that I couldn't help but notice she basically gets dressed twice for no reason other than to keep those tits on-screen for more runtime.

Supposedly there's a remake due in theaters next month, though you've never heard of anybody involved, so apparently they're keeping to the original's spirit in only hiring D-listers. Watch the original on Amazon Prime, or just search Elizabeth Pena on your favorite wank site.

Everyone talks about how this is a return to form for Shyamalan and how James McAvoy had multiple stellar performances. I personally believe McAvoy over acted hard most of the time and that the film is pretty mediocre.

Maybe not critically, but so many people think that Team America World Police is funny. It was even referenced in this thread. I tried watching it and got such a visceral feeling of revulsion, I didn't even get to the famous Kim Jung Un song. Maybe it was the hideous puppets or jerky movements, maybe it was the juvenile humor. Of course, those were before my pot smokin' days, so maybe I'd find it funnier now.

I've only ever seen Frozen in German, and have no desire to ever see it again. I really like Moana, but mainly for the tropical and island aesthetic. If an animated film doesn't look pleasing to me, I won't like it. (except Rango, which has hideous characters but is my favorite animated movie)

Mr. Polexia keeps pressuring me to watch Dark Knight Rises with him, but truth be told I cannot remember one second of the first movie. Superhero movies do nothing for me whatsoever.

I cannot remember one second of No Country For Old Men either. Or Snatch.

Easy Rider is like the colloquial hippie counterculture road trip movie, and I was bored to tears.

Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas was one of the most exhausting film experiences I have ever had. Halfway through the movie I was desperate for it to be over. It gave me a headache and put me on edge.

Plus tbh I thought The Visit was Shyamalan's better return.

And that was way before the scene where the girl puppet shits on a guy's chest.

The upcoming Split/Unbreakable crossover also looks like shit. I'm rolling at the concept of an M.Night Shyamalan expanded universe.

Hocus Pocus. I mean I don’t hate it but I just found it kind of boring and lame. Then again I was almost 20 when I first saw it, not young like a lot of people.
Yeah Hocus Pocus was one of those "childhood classics" I never really got attached to, and I'm the type that loves to watch a bunch of fitting stuff at Halloween time.

Personally, I liked Ernest Scared Stupid more.

Jurassic PArk. It had shitty acting and the dialogue was inane.

Heathers. Really, pretty much anything with Christian Slater in it. Trying to be a dark, hipster, Breakfast Club grafting movie.

Eyes Wide Shut wasn't even saved by the copious amounts of nudity. I think the eyes propped open from A Clockwork Orange was a premonition for what one would need to do to keep awake for EWS.

Can't stand Shyamalhan, except Unbreakable. That was pretty good. I walked out of the theatre during Lady in the Water or whatever it was called. Maybe I should give Split a go though...
