MTV plans Daria reboot along with other MTV classics - Jane replaced due to whiteness

Oh fuck no. Why do they have to touch this show? Leave it in the past. It was perfect the way it was, and the way it ended.

We all know where the reboot will be headed, it'll be just another SJW shitshow like everything else on MTV... and why Daria & Jodie? They were close acquaintances but they weren't best friends like Daria & Jane were. I wonder why they would pair them together?.... oooh right, we all know why.
On the bright side, maybe younger people today who aren't into the SJW bullshit will look at the original series and get into that instead.

Daria just wouldn't translate well into today's society for reasons that were already mentioned, it was a product of its time. It would be like if they made a Brady Bunch reboot... oh wait they did, they made 2 movies in the '90s and the only way they could have pulled that off was to make the Brady Bunch stuck in some kind of '70s time warp while everyone else lived in the modern day.

I wouldn't even say Daria and Jane were close with Jodie. They were acquaintances but they never reached out to her or really hung out with her unless it was school related. Just like how you could say they were "acquaintances" with Britney, Kevin, and Upchuck.

Anyway, Live action Aeon Flux is going to be bad. How are they going to pullit all off with live action?

They already had live action Aeon Flux.

So I have zero faith it can reinvent itself without falling into the SJW pits of sacrificing story for virtue signaling and including diversity, I could be surprised, but I doubt it, reboots generally please nobody, the new fans think the old show was obsolete (and are probably right) and the old ones think it can't measure up because it's not the same (and can't be)

They're just going to rape the corpse of yet another franchise like the corporate scum they are.

The Aeon Flux reboot might be good if they bring back Peter Chung and let him do what he wants.
They really should let him have a say on this, the live-action movie made years before certainly didn't show it.

That 90s block is what millennials think the 90s were like on MTV. It's not for people who actually watched MTV in the 90s. And the playlists are nowhere near as goes as VH1 Classic. But at least they play videos. Well, when they aren't doing TRL throwbacks.
I'm surprised they play music at all.

Anyway, Live action Aeon Flux is going to be bad. How are they going to pullit all off with live action? She's a contortionist with very unrealistic proportions. They will ruin the whole look and abilities of her character. Wasn't there already a terrible live action movie? Just make another cartoon. People are already going to complain that she's too thin, white and sexy. Her clothing is skin tight to attract that evil male gaze of 10,000 rapes. They're gonna have to give second billing to a black character or everyone will cry about the lack of #wokeness. Just leave it alone already. Leave Daria alone too. In fact, go play some videos.
I'd rather they bring these back and play only these...

No more thick outlines and that very simple flash cartoon art style? Oh yeah.

The only good that will come of this abomination is that hopefully a new generation will discover the old show.
There's that hope, at least hoping that one or two people who actually care for what things were will discover the show for what it is.

Does anyone remember "The Box" channel that played Music Videos 24/7 that could also be influenced by calling in to request a video? That was the shit, but then it got replaced by MTV2

On topic, I liked Daria even though I only got real into it watching the reruns as a tween. Them using the writer of Fucking Amy Schumer is the biggest reddest flag ever that this show is DOA.

Yes, I watched it all the time when I had it locally for a few years. You can blame Viacom for that one since they bought out the guys who ran that channel.

I don't even want to know what the first episode is going to be at all since I'm already picturing it in my head.

"Look, an underachieving WHITE person and a brilliant BLACK princess who won't get as many chances because of her skin color"

That's how they'll frame this.

They had an episode where Jodie complained about how there was a lot of pressure on her to be a model student because she was black and had to 'set an example' because her parents were both very successful. I think she also had issues because she didn't just WANT to be a 'successful African American' she just wanted to be 'successful' bar any sort of label which uh OH doesn't gel with today's 'raceblindness is racism' view.

Just a shame. They're gonna gut everything interesting about Daria and Jodie as characters and just make them into stupid mouthpieces for progressive shit.

Daria reboot will be awful, left pandering shit. Unless they make her emily youcis-esque, she's going to fall right into the status-quo of a boring woke highschool student.

Make her crazy? Nah, that wouldn't fall into their targeted demographic.

The original show is still unique because the main character is essentially Anti-Blossom or Anti-Clarissa Explains it All or Anti-My So Called Life. She's the exact opposite of every single show ever made about a teenage girl.

The tag line for this thread is funny because when I was a kid, I actually thought Jane was Asian.

It's kind of obvious since Jane's brother and her other siblings that show up from time to time are clearly white.

That was in the Is It College Yet? TV movie and that was the most character development Jodie ever got. And it was fine but she was never part of the core cast of characters. She was just there and not an autist like Britney or Kevin.

First Beavis & Butthead, now Daria and Aeon Flux. I guess it's a blessing in disguise then Clone High don't get a reboot...yet.

Beavis and Butthead worked though, because it wasn't essentially 90s, like Daria was. You could set Beavis and Butthead in Ancient Greece, and it would work, because who hasn't known people like them? Seeing them react to Twilight, trying to be bounty hunters, and adopting a pet rat -- that was great. And the video comments were just as funny.

Whereas Daria's one of those shows that's a product of its time, like All in the Family. You'd have to switch an awful lot of shit around, and it would lose everything that made it great.

(Would Ms Barch, the radfem still have a relationship with what's his name? The really wimpy male teacher? I can so see her as a TERF, so I don't see it happening. Plus a LOT of old episodes of Daria would piss of the SJWs of today)
