This is a huge step down although I am not really interested in having the specific argument of why bronies are better than furries.
I'm gonna agree with you because a friend of mine that was a brony became a furry and almost immediately turned into an insufferable and annoying person that only wanted to talk about furry fandom drama or politics to me.

Dr. Wolf's also in the same circle as Josh Scorcher, and was involved in one of the Brony pedo scandals a ways back. If I recall correctly he made a very ill-timed call for forgiveness that he then had to retract.

MLP did have feminist messages. The whole idea behind the main characters was to show there's no one way to be a girl. There was even an entire episode with the moral of "just because you're a girly girl doesn't mean you're helpless." It worked because it brought girls up, not crushed other people down like modern feminism does. The show did better female empowerment themes than any other "it has lesbians so it's good" flavor of the month cartoon progressive adult children lap up.
I suspect it is because, like the poster above said, it came prior to when activists insisted every piece of media needs to have their obnoxious talking points in it. Wootmaster will hate it because it isn't progressive enough. People like him are never happy even when catered to.
