Just watched the Rifftrax of the 1995 Gumby movie, which seems to bemuse the Riffers with it's weirdness. Though they are annoyed by Gumby, calling him a "dick" and calling him out for two songs, one that plays near the end as sung by a Gumby groupie named Tara as part of a music video and then the ending theme, that seem devoted to kissing his "green butt". I mean, according to the lyrics Gumby going "this way and that" is in itself supposedly awesome.

The plot, such as it is, involves Gumby and his band made up of his fellow generic guitar rock playing clay abominations throwing a benefit concert for local farmers being foreclosed upon by the Blockheads, and the Blockheads go after Gumby's dog Lowbelly after seeing him weep tears that turn into pearls and...well as the Guys say, any of the scenarios presented in stills during the end credits would have made for a better movie than something about "farm loans".

Gumby got a genuine laugh out of me when they drive up to the three grandmas passed out in the road after just rescuing a grandma who had passed out in the road. Perfect comedy beat.

Also listened to the latest episode of 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back, as Nelson and Lestowka start in on "Modelland", Tyra Banks' attempt at a YA novel that's a nonstop barrage of campiness and forced surrealism and grotesqueries, that is obviously biting on various "inspirations" like Harry Potter and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and others but does so in batshit insane ways. It looks like a rough ride.

In the latest Kickstarter update, Joel revealed that they will be riffing at least one black and white movie this season. He didn’t reveal which movie, but said it was made in 1961. He also clarified why the Netflix seasons didn’t have any black and white movies, stating that it had nothing to do with Netflix’s requests, but rather Joel’s own concerns about potential new viewers being turned off by black and white movies, as well as how they would look compared to a flashy Netflix original like Stranger Things.

I pre-ordered the Riff for Face/Off and I'm glad I did, While the action sequences were pretty great and I always appreciate Woo approaching material with complete emotional sincerity, what soured me on the movie back when was Travolta, whose presence post Pulp Fiction career revival just pointed out how much better movies where without him, in general.

(big speedboat crash near the end sends Cage and Travolta's characters flying through the air)
"This depicts their career trajectories post Face/Off."
(speedboat slams into the ground and explodes)

♫ It's the '80s!

Do a lot of coke and vote for Ronald Reagan! ♩

(also was it really "fish picker"?)
The very weird 80sness of that movie actually creeped me out as a kid, it was so foreign when compared to then contemporary culture and it's crazy to think it was only a decade prior when I would have watched that episode.
