If impeachment was a popular stance, you'd have to be holding these people by the arms to keep them from barreling into the room to immediately hold a vote. The Democrats have the majority in the House, they could easily pass the resolution and introduce Impeachment to the Senate. It would immediately get slapped down by the Republican-controlled Senate, but that would be an enormous boon to their election / re-election campaigns.
"We've made every possible effort to remove this criminal from office but we don't have the political power to do this. Please vote for us so we can oust him from office."
If the general public believed that Trump was legitimately a criminal and they also believed--even to the tune of 51%-- that impeachment was the appropriate course of action, they would immediately be in the room trying to slam down that vote as hard as they could. It's incredibly telling to me that they aren't doing that, and are now finally publicly admitting that they won't be doing that.
It's a shame, I was hoping they were stupid enough to go for it.

Yeah, here's what's actually going on there, for those that don't realize it. Pelosi, for all her oh so many sins (how exactly did someone who has only ever worked in government become the richest member of Congress?) she is the absolute best Vote Counter in the House. She always knows th eexact calculus of how any vote would go. If Pelosi is not holding a vote on an impeachment inquiry, it means that she does not have the votes for an impeachment inquiry. (Which opens up a whole other can of worms, such as how and why can 2 representatives from California decide single handedly with no Congressional Action to overthrow a sitting President?)
Are they hanging Schiff out to dry? It really looks like they are.

Even AOC saw that this attempt was not going to work when Trump declassified everything. But Adam E. Coyote (impeachus dickus) put too much faith in his one (1) ACME whistleblower kit, and flew right off that cliff when he outright tried to put an alternate reality's worth of evidence that does not exist on this physical plane into the legal record of the legislature and expected it to work, somehow....

I watched the press briefing yesterday where Pelosi was asked why they aren't holding a vote. She stammered something about how they didn't need to and then rambled about how this all started "on Constitution Day!!!" before abruptly ending the briefing and walking out. If you watched that and didn't come away understanding that they've got nothing then you're fooling yourself.
Even if you didn't compare AOC to Socrates (chances are even AOC is not left enough for you) it does sound like something you'd do to troll the forums.
But getting back to the subject at hand, this impeachment turned out to be the whole load of nothing that we expected it to be. Adam Schiff shot himself in the foot on this one.
I'm thinking that AOC distancing herself from the impeachment inquiry may have played a role in Pelosi dropping it all. If The Squad can't get on board with impeachment, then the saner establishment Democrats will need a new strategy to get AOC and her ilk out of office.
