Recently the Nacirema people have had a new custom develop. Now it is common for families to designate one of their children as a sacrifice. The sacrifice will often be a boy from the age of 3 to 12 who will often be reported to have felt a divine calling from an early age. The boy will be taken to a temple and drugged while a medicine man removes several parts of his genitals. After and often before this ritual the sacrifice will consume herbs in order to commune with the divine. There are often several other similar rituals that sacrifices undergo such as one often known as the chest stuffing, a form of scarification in which the medicine man uses a stone knife to cut the sacrifices chest and then stuffs it with minerals, this often causes extreme swelling which is seen as a sign of divine blessing. Sacrifices often wear distinct clothing and are revered in Nacirema society as a priest class, their status is known from the custom in which insult to a sacrifice almost always results in exile to the offender.
