Did they ever say they had planned for Anders to go nuts? Tbh it didn't bother me that he was cray.

Meredith and Patrice were honestly terrifying imo. The voice acting was elevated in a way that Jean Gilpin's performance as Meredith was both powerful and creepy at the same time imo. They need a new female villain.

There was some concept art for Anders for in Inquisition as a crazy hermit or something.
He needs some Avvar spirit counseling.

They really wrote themselves in a corner with how the Dalish handle the mages without templars..Only to retcon it in Inquisition, fuck dai's writers. (I really love how much emotion Jean Gilpin put into her lines. Final boss battle still hypes me)

Will reserve judgement on this but there's enough warning signs to worry me. Origins was a really good game - tactical, believable, hysterically funny sometimes and really deep. And you could have a dog!

The second one I was really excited for until I played the demo they put out and it was just a point and click dumb action game where you actually had fucking speed blur effects as you shot across the battlefield at super-human speeds. I never bought it, never played it further than the demo. I also didn't like the inflexibility of character choice.

Inquisition didn't re-capture the tactical feel of the original but at least it pulled back a little from whatever abomination (heh!) the second one had been in terms of game play. You had a bit more of a tactical overview again (but not good enough). There was enough in it to enjoy and I liked some of the characters like Cass. (Sera and Bull, considerably less so).

I've an open enough mind about the series that I'll judge a fourth on its own merits. But we'll see.

This isn't an RPG, this is a Text Choice Adventure (TCA). Where you must keep picking choices and outcomes and watch as the story unfolds before you. All that RPG mechanics and other gameplay systems do is get in the way of what's really of paramount importance in video games as a whole, a story. Because if you don't have a story the game just isn't worth buying. Writing a script with characters the audience can identify with comes above all else, even before coding. A video game that can't capture the essence and feeling of watching an oscar award winning movie isn't a video game at all.

The second one had necromom, that came out of left-field at least.

And a nercrothread, apparently! Got interested when I saw this reply, thought maybe there'd been some news about Dragon Age 4. But doesn't look like anything new has come out, same rumours as before - set in the Tevinter Imperium. Plot follows on from the extended post-game DLC with Solas in Inquisitor. Not much else known.

Anyway, you mean Morrigan's mother? Like I say, I never played the game because even if the plot might be interesting, I want an a strategic RPG like the first one not whatever crap that second one was. Most of what I know about its plot is just what I picked up from the third one. That also wasn't as good as the first but the game play was closer so that I did actually enjoy it. I seem to remember the annoying elf bow girl wasn't talking to me by the end of it.

What they need to do:
  1. Re-release Dragon Age: Origins with improved graphics and main character voicing. Hell, just create the dialogue and some means to hook it in and I'll do some community voice acting. But basically like they did with Mass Effect. It's a great game - just update it a little.
  2. Reintroduce actual sex scenes like they had in the first one. Sure, they're cheesy but at least they're better than the "fade to black" in DA:I
  3. Make the game play for 4 like in Origins. You can go top-down, you can pull out to a much wider view (DA:I is very limited to how far back you can go). You can still have the awful PoV jump around mode for the console players if you want that market.
  4. Add a mod where I can punch Solas in the face with my mailed fist.
  5. Reintroduce a dog companion. I want to see "excited bark" in my subtitles once more.

No, shut up. Voice acting ruined CRPGs. Shepard is why they ruined CRPGs they took all agency away from the player and it costs even more money to put someone top dollar as the main protag than it would having second fiddles respond to various dialogue lines.

Also I'm sick of Jennifer Hale and Troy Baker.

Play a porn game for that. You're asking for trouble and ugly models fucking at this point in time.

Agreed. See? I'm not unreasonable.

No, let me siphon his essence to completely destroy him. He's the entire reason everything went to shit.

No, they'll probably try to act meme-cute by making it talk like reddit doge. The people in development are a bunch of arrested development faggots who can't grow up and think memes are the highest quality of writing there is. None of them can even be original in their own jokes or writing, too, they just rip everything from either the internet or better media before them.

Well, if anyone actually had any hope of this game not being a pile of shit - Bioware has lost another of its older staff members
Considering we haven’t heard jack about the game other than “It Exists We’re Woking on it”, probably not a good sign.

Surely this can only be a good thing! The old pro is gone, so now they have enough money in the budget to hire twenty dangerhaired loons straight out of college. I await their "progressive" writing with bated breath.

We've also heard everything's been scrapped and rebooted multiple times, and we regularly hear since it was announced about them bleeding staff.
I feel that first one’s on me, but giving a shit about most video game journalism is an uphill battle due to most video game journalists deserving The Rope.

As is, I’ve got $5 saying Nu-Bioware’s probably going to collapse in on itself before this game makes it out. Call it a hunch - will it be as bad as Cyberpunk, oh fuck no, but it’ll be such a clusterfuck due to staff coming and going that I wouldn’t be surprised if EA doesn’t finally kill the studio (or pivot them to help on Battlefield - hey, it works for Activison with CoD…)

Imagine my shock when this thread for necro'd.

Imagine my IMMENSE shock when I learned that the studio responsible for ME:A and Anthem had made zero reportable progress on a game in their last not-dead franchise.

Between this and VtMB2 vanishing down the memory hole (after selling pre-orders) I'm staying to wonder if video game sequels are becoming as cursed as movie sequels.

The Mass Effect remaster was really quite good, a desperately needed shot in the arm. But I'm wondering if it's going to turn out to be their swan song. Whatever is going on behind the scenes at Dragon Age must be a hilarious shit show.

No it wasn't. It was another lackluster remaster that somehow looked worse than the old games.
Agree to disagree. It was certainly a financial success. And say what you will about it, it was a long way from the abortion Rockstar just shit out on GTA fans.
