Following the Precure, Gundam, Macross, and Rumiko Takahashi mega
polls, Japan's national television broadcaster NHK has launched polls spanning the entirety of the Final Fantasyseries, including favorite game, character, boss/summon, and song.

The poll launched on the NHK's website last Friday and will run until February 11. The results will be announced in a program on NHK BS Premiumscheduled for February 29. On January 27, the station will air a program looking back on the series' 32-year history and reveal the poll's preliminary results.
As for the poll options, there are 57 Final Fantasy games, roughly 3,300 characters, 4,400 boss/summons, and 2,900 songs to choose from. Not only does this poll marks the first time the broadcaster's survey has covered video games, it's also the biggest database to choose from yet.

it's a tie between FF VI and VII IMO.

best song is hard because there's too much awesome FF music.

Who cares what the people of Japan think, just tell me what His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Naruhito's favorite FF is. I can tell he's a man of good taste so it must be FF5.
Why would you like 5? It has the worst campaign next to 4 Hard Type and Final Fantasy 2 and 3. The Jobs system also became useless once you were able to 1 hit everything.

6 was the pinnacle of the 2D games.

FF5 doesn't give the tiniest shit about plot, story, or characters (and still manages to have the best setting and music anyway). That's what makes it great. It's a systems-driven game. If you're one-hitting everything then you must be like level 90 with all jobs maxed out.

You can customize every single character ability at the most granular level once you start using freelancers/mimes with mastered classes. That beats the hell out of 6's lame pre-determined character types (not to mention its giant number of useless party members). No other FF comes close to allowing that kind of player choice.

Controversial opinion here, but I think XV is the best of the modern Final Fantasy games while I is the best of the old-school 2D games and VII is the best of the PS1/PS2-era titles.

Yes, VII is overhyped but there's a reason why it got so popular to begin with.

Never played VI and don't know much about it, but I know it's probably the most popular of the old 2D FF titles. I will definitely check it out.

My bets are (since it's Japan)

Staying exclusive to mainline FF the Top 10 will contain the following (in no order):
I : The OG and there for the value of it saving SE and being a revolution for RPGS.
IV: The first one with a intricate story that works with the characters. Also the first one with characters being assigned a specific job.
VI: It's an absolute classic, and is still cherished by JP as much as the others. The amount of Terra artwork alone is insane.
VII: Because it's VII. Expecting a big circle jerk for it since the remake is coming out in three months.
VIII: Riding on the HD remaster, I think more and more people are appreciating it for what it is. Add in Squall is a pretty boi for JP crowd
IX: Another classic, in story, world, characters, and overall fantastic presentation
X: The first one on PS2 and it used that shit to the max. Is a fun one and a lot of people love it for the Tidus x Yuna romance.
XIII: They wouldn't make two more games after if this one tanked. Really subject to opinion but I enjoyed it for the story (Least for the original XIII, especially Sazh)
XIV: Currently the king of modern age FF, and has been making waves since Heavensward. Fantastic story and characters and the gameplay is great. Expecting this in the top 5 if not top 3.
XV: If you weren't expecting this one after the amount of advertising, long winded development hell, and the lasting impact it has even though it only came out 3 years ago, i dunno what to say.

The others I feel will fall into them paying respects but focusing more on the positive reasons of why these ones are big.

Granted I would totally switch out I for XII if we were keeping development aside from the equation.

No other FF comes close to allowing that kind of player choice.

Tactics does (comedy option: bravely default as well). BD is a great game if you want to just play weird build mechanics and ignore everything else, and it’s balanced around it.

Tactics, though, is fucking broken. There used to be a thing called the 1CC where people on gamefaqs would just try to come up with unique builds capable of soloing the endgame gauntlet and there were just endless walls of broken exploitative bullshit that completely broke the game. The only one I can remember offhand was that Dancer was so busted it was possible to win literally any fight with a single command, regardless who the opponents were, as long as the dancer could take a single hit from them without dying.

Yeah but 5 has massive boss bullshit moves and difficulty spikes. Also many dungeons were just badly designed. Not as bad as 3's final dungeon but a few get pretty close.

FFIX is best game, Kefka is best villain, Pandemonium from 9, aurons theme from 10, or one winged angel from 7 for best soundtrack. Best character would either be Cecil from 4, Vincent from 7, ViVi From 9, Auron from 10, or Sabin from 6. Best fan service would be LuLu's big ass tiddys from 10. Best Weapon would be the auto crossbow from 6 or The Ogre from 9 because they have saved my ass more times than I can count. Best summon would be Fat Chocobo or Odin. Best boss battle. . . Probably Kefka, its hard to argue with a final boss that not only succeeds in becoming a god but legit destroys the world as well. The stakes have never been higher than that. Also worst mini game is a straight tie between any of the card games and the bain of all Final Fantasy Blitzball. Fuck Blitzball.
