Honestly, the second thing they're talking about is something actually worth paying attention to, unlike this non-issue, despite their opinions on otherwise.

This one's much longer, but the man commenting on it (who served, of course.) is awesome in how right and true what he's pointing out is about how the military works.

Short and sweet - another man who served and offers a balanced perspective on this... Because it makes my day posting good material like this on here.

Didn't Obama set the rules to let them in? I didn't really follow it at the time but the conservative salt made it sound like it was all Obama's doing.

DADT was legislation that allowed the president to end any or all portions of it if he felt the subject no longer threatened readiness, followed by a 60 day waiting period (to allow congress time to act if they disagreed).

So it was his doing, with congress's (silent) approval.

But the fact is, according to article I, sec 8, clause 14, congress sets the rules for the military. The president is CINC, but he has to live with the rules as set by the house and senate.

There is an Australian tranny military person, Cate McGregor, who was a guy named Malcolm before becoming his new fabulous self. The problem with this is that whilst he transitioned and looks female enough, takes hormones and all that kind of junk, he also has retained all of the "male" interests he had as Malcolm. Sports specifically. Who *he* is, hasn't changed, save for wearing a dress and lipstick. He's also a royal cunt bleating about how everyone should have to learn about Transgenderism and other LGBT whatever stuff.

If having an interest in sports is enough to make you a male, then I must be trans. And I'm not.

Crossdressing isn't a new phenomena, transitioning/transgender is a totally modern thing. People back then who claimed they were the opposite sex were mentally ill, or were hiding in drag for the social benefits. Most of those cases cited were women, many who were lesbos, who had a choice between the indentured servitude of marriage and being a baby machine until they died in child birth, or hiding out as a dude, getting to shuck off the corset, wear pants, join the army, get an education, maybe actually own some property and have adventures.

So in other words, they transitioned, but for other reasons? Unless they left actual personal records (and some did), we don't know. Perhaps some of them were intersex as well.

No, it's not a modern thing. The first sex-change operation in the U.S. was performed in 1917.

Were all of those people in the past trans? Probably not. But I'm guessing a good many were. Many of them left diaries and letters, or wrote memoirs. And for those who didn't, well, you're never going to get 100% proof, anymore than you will if they were gay, or whatever. Studying history doesn't work like that. You go with what evidence you have. I imagine a lot of people hid it probably, just like a lot of gay people stayed in the closet. That doesn't mean gay people didn't exist.

Honestly, considering there are trans people currently serving, and until it can be shown to be a problem, I think this is just Trump trying to gain attention, or pander to his base. And I think judging all trans people by the fruitcakes we talk about here is kind of dumb. It's kinda confirmation bias.

Look, I hate doing the whole "white-knighting" thing, but there's just so much misinformation here and since my degree is in history, it drives me batshit. Unless we can get inside the heads of those people in the past, we cannot say for certain one way or another. But to just blatantly assume there were no trans people in the past is retarded. If it is a mental illness, or condition, it didn't just pop up out of nowhere. People just feel more comfortable admitting it now.

Absolutely fucking nothing is going to come of this tweet. It’s not a presidential order. It has no legal weight. Trump just got bored and wanted attention, and these morons are giving it to him by the bucketful.

Not only pay attention to him, but turn their attention away from whatever's being passed through the government at the moment. Considering news coverage is all RUSSIA and TRUMP MADE A TWEET as opposed to covering what the government's actually been doing, it's working.
