So, aside from the gay guy (who isn't going to win, lets be real), the new faces of western literature are pretty much the same person, you know the "fattish" weird girl on your school that used to eat lunch alone but somehow had this heavy air of self-importance about them, yeah, they are the one writing all the books now.

And by books, I mean the same tropey heavy YA meshed with sci-fy/fantasy bullshit.

I would say chances are good for our girl Lindsay, none of them have the recognition and following Lindsay has, and aside from the latina girl who probably spend a week and a half in latin America visiting relatives and knows 10 phrases in spanish, the rest is just as white and boring as Lindsay herself.

Oddly, Jimenez ia the first man nominated for award since 2016... the last time non loons tried to get people nominated.

Ironically, Lindsay is at a disadvantage being straight and white. Last few winners are all gay, Asian, black or SFWA's token native American, Rebecca Roanhorse.

Used to be because it honored Joseph Campbell, a big name editor in early science fiction, and it was sponsored by one of his former magazines.

Gicen they changed it because a former award winner went on a tirade about how rascist Campbell was in her award speech... which was later itself given a Hugo Award, I shit you not, they renamed it.

Given the original reason for the separation is gone, I don't know why they bother.

Every one of those women looks like a seething ball of rage under the surface. Most remind me of mugshots of those chicks who let their boyfriends molest the kids. Especially Emily Tesh. A-log away, but I really hope that Lindsay loses this. Any award would merely serve as more ego-stuffing confirmation that she's a remarkably good writer and a brave new talent in the field. I've read enough extracts from her pile of guff to know that there are dozens of better writers than her - male, female, gay, straight, whatever - out there who'll never get a publishing contract in their lives. Lindsay, in however small a way, is a celebrity, and one who ticks a minority box or two - and, after the lambasting that the more reeeee-ing types gave George R R Martin last year, she could have a fair shot at winning. Which is a depressing thought.
