Doug's own comedic skills aside, it didn't have the hook that his other skits series had:I will never understand why people were so mad at the Melvin thing. It's the exact same as every other sketch he's ever done.
All I can guess is that a loser living with his mom hit too close to home for Doug's fanbase.
Ask That Guy was about how horrible and evil this person was and how insane his answers to increasingly unhinged questions could get;
Bum Reviews awas about how endearing, cheerful and hyperactive this homeless dude could be while describing movies;
Merry Zodmas was doug doing an adequate impression of Superman II's General Zod and weaving it in christmas tropes;
Video Game Confessions was about this posh bartender telling crazy anecdotes from his job at a bar full of video game celebrities;
How to be a Pirate, while so-so, was doug goofing around as a pirate;
Even Lori Prince Live had the whole news network thing despite only lasting 2 episodes.
Melvin was just "The Joker, but he sucks haha", that was the entire joke and it wasn't that funny to begin with. That and Rob's unbearable shrieking as Melvin's mother just made it more of a chore to get through.
Emo Jones had the same problem too, being "Emos, haha" and nothing else.
