Here's a question for all of you still in this thread. Between Demo Reel, Pop Quiz Hotshot, and The Wall parody, which project is the most self-indulgent for Doug Walker?
Demo Reel, it came hot on the heels of the four hours long circle-jerk that was To Boldly Flee, and it was nothing but poorly acted skits that dragged on and on while nothing interesting happened. It was particularly painful to watch because the Walker brothers were and still are terrible actors. None of them is capable of properly conveying any emotion other than faked tard rage and their faces are permanently stuck either in a pouting expression or a smug grin.

And the irony of the show's premises, my God. A failed director who re-does successful directors' movies, you'd think Doug would see the parallels with his own life.

And top it all off there's the final episode, where Doug bitterly tells his viewers to shut the fuck up and accept that he's going to review whatever he wants, Nostalgia be damned, then dramatic music swells up in the background as he stares transfixed at a shitty VFX for fifteen minutes while the other characters hastily retcon the whole show as a "all just a dream" scenario while still jerking his ego off for good measure.

I'd hazard that the only reason the show isn't as widely mocked as it should be is because it was so boring not enough people bothered watching it for it to reach meme status.

Apparently the part where he's going to review whatever he wants is close to what he said to Mike Machaud behind the scenes.
After To Boldly Flee, Doug was resolved to never do the Critic again. The character was dead & buried, as far as he was concerned. He then hired Malcolm & Rachel & tried to do Demo Reel. And it was a spectacular failure. My understanding for former producers is that Michaud came to him & basically said "You have to bring the Critic back." Doug initially refused, but eventually relented on certain conditions, such as Malcolm & Rachel be kept on & that he could write skits.

I was once told the review of "The Odd Life Of Timothy Green" contains a scene that was basically what happened between Michaud & Doug.

It wasn't necessarily that Doug wanted to combine Demo Reel & the Critic....he was basically given no choice. Site traffic was down after TBF & the death of the Critic & it was affecting the other producers site traffic as well. It was basically a reluctant compromise.
It was actually in the finale of Demo Reel, where Doug talked with the Critic after contemplating bringing the character back. Towards the end, they go over ground rules of how the show's format would change. The whole point of it was a meta-narrative on Doug reviving the Nostalgia Critic.

Moderately late, but definitely demo reel, as he's still not over it. Clipless reviews prove that he's STILL mad about its failure and tries to shove the essence of it into more successful products.

Going to followup on what everyone answering my question, yeah it does really seem Demo Reel is Doug Walker's magnum Anus and still is angry that it failed. The fact he does the shitty recreations of films that already might be terrible to begin with or films that might actually be good is rather infuriating. I'm going to minor powerlevel that I kept watching with diminishing returns with even keeping with his fuck awful "review" of Fury Road. I kept up even with his piss-poor review of Ghostbusters 2016 with that film clearly being an example of one of the worst remakes by metric of completely failing to understand what made the original good. The straw(man) that broke the camel's back however was his Christmas with the Kranks review going to shit all over those who preferred the older style of videos going to use the brokebrain logic of viewcounts to justify his militant insistence on shittastic skits.

On that note, I'm honestly asking on who's the fans of Doug Walker and how does this man still keep any degree of viewcounts when there are far better reviewers and far-far funnier people out there? What's the age of the viewers that keep this up

Not sure, but sounds like a lot of people are cursing JewWario for making a way for #ChangeTheChannel to not be the final coup de grace.

I assume YouTube recommends his videos to random people who are interested in the same movies/subjects

I think I'm probably done, I've only watched a handful of videos over the last 6 months and nothing for 4 months, that's quite a while.

I think it's a shame because I do think he put out some quality content around a decade ago, but Demo Reel really did permanently wreck his momentum and it's been a slow but steady downward spiral ever since and by this point especially he just seems flat out tired and I probably can't even work up the interest in his Terminator reviews.

The only thing I think could save him is if he goes "back to basics" and dials it way down on the skits, if not stops them completely and goes back to what it was circa 2009/2010, the simplicity of that would ironically stand out in today's climate.

It's weird to think of having nostalgia for... the Nostalgia Critic, but it's shocking how long ago his peak period was now.

A large number of viewers came back after he canned Demo Reel and clearly didn't give two shits about the whole CTC fiasco. I think he's managed to keep a sizeable portion of diehard fans, and even if their numbers diminish he can still salvage some views thanks to his vids being put in people's recommended feeds if they have a passing interest in movies. For now at least, I have no idea for how long he'll be able to keep this up.

personally I was still considering watching his new content after CTC, if he covered something I had a strong interest in, but the Wall was the final nail in the coffin for me.
I can't watch anything made by a guy who thinks that shit is good. Mr Polexio is a big Floyd fan and just watching Ralphthemoviemaker's review of NC's Wall almost gave him a coronary. And that's with most of the actual NC content removed.

Just my opinion but I thought that he rapidly declined the moment he bought back the Nostalgia Critic character and added his two unfunny Sidekicks to everything.
They absolutely killed comedy he tries to bring in which is already cringe-worthy since Doug isn't all that funny to begin with nowadays

i think that's a commonly held opinion. I certainly agree. I always skip over fatty and blackie's "comedy" segments
