I wish people wouldn't do that. I could understand it if it was something said in a dm, but it's stupid to censor the name for a comment made publicly.
It's such a stupid practice that I generally only see used on reddit to prevent "harassment." I've always thought it was a stupid policy, even for DMs. If it's a public comment, then you've just made more work for people trying to track the post down. If it's a private comment, you've already betrayed that person's trust by reposting it, what difference does leaving their name in make?

That's one big hole in the vault...
But the inside on the ground floor seems mostly alright ? there's rumble but it was just benches in that area and the fire hasn't spread there so that's good news. There will be some water damage though for sure too.
Looks likes something off from Call of Duty.

This is the first time in years I have physically cried.
This is devastating.
I can't even enjoy the memes or throw up any irony.
This is just awful. I feel like a part of me dies everytime I look at the structure burn.
I know I'm acting exceptional but I honestly don't care right now.
You're not being exceptional, I feel the same way.
Like someone's punched me in the stomach.

It will be almost impossible to rebuild correctly. It had lead sheets for roofing for Pete's sake, specifically on the main spire. Good luck getting modern envirofags to approve that again.

Not to mention the artifacts that were inside. No fire in the building has been this large before. Saw a video from NBC that part of Jesus' crown of thorns was inside.

Regardless of if it was truly part of his crown, it was a VERY old artifact with VERY high significance.

If this was perpetrated by muslims... God have mercy on them. The pope may be cucked and bends over backwards for liberals these days, but this will drastically redpill (blackpill?) many Catholics.

Deus vult.
I dunno if anyone has said this already, but the Crown of Thorns was among the many relics, artworks, and masterpeices saved from the flames.

I would not want to be someone who had to see a scene like that in-person. That's just horrifying.
The lone cross standing in darkness, amid the ruins of the church, enveloped in smoke, with smoldering pieces of the roof raining from the inferno above it is more horrifying a picture than 99.9% of the garbage Hollywood managed to spit out into the horror basket in the last 20 years. Nature truly is scarier than anything humans can come up with.

I wouldn't call it horrifying, I'd call it divine. I mean the spire collapsed through the vaulted ceiling, and yet the altar still stands with its cross. I'd say have the pope bless it, but I'd wait until the next one if I was Catholic.

I didn't know whether to cry or be sick when I watched the news this morning. All that art, history, and just -- it's priceless. My heart goes out to French Kiwis.

And ease up with all the fucking conspiracy theories, will you? Is this Kiwi Farms or Free Republic/Tumblr? I thought we made fun of those dumbasses?

French billionaire pledges 100 million euros to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral as President Macron launches a national fundraising campaign to restore the building to its former glory

A French billionaire has pledged 100 million euros to help rebuild Notre Dame Cathedral as a defiant President Macron launches a national fundraising campaign to restore the building to its former glory.

The catastrophic blaze destroyed the roof of the 850-year-old UNESCO world heritage landmark as horrified Parisians looked on - many in tears and praying - on Monday evening.

A visibly emotional Macron, spoke outside the gothic cathedral and said a national fundraising campaign to restore Notre Dame would be launched Tuesday, as he called on the world's 'greatest talents' to help.

He said: 'We will appeal to the greatest talents and we will rebuild Notre-Dame because that's what the French are waiting for, because that's what our history deserves, because it's our deepest destiny.'

French billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault, who is married to Hollywood actress Salma Hayek, pledged 100 million euros (£86.2 million) towards the rebuilding of the cathedral.

In a statement the CEO of the Kering group, which owns Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent fashion houses, said the money towards 'the effort necessary to completely rebuild Notre-Dame' would be paid by the Pinault family's investment firm Artemis.

Macron had earlier cancelled a major televised policy speech he was due to give on Monday evening to respond to months of protests, and instead headed to the scene in person.

He said while the 'worst had been avoided' and the facade and two towers saved, 'the next hours will be difficult'.

Paris fire brigade chief Jean-Claude Gallet said 'we can consider that the main structure of Notre-Dame has been saved and preserved' as well as the two towers.

Deputy Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, also present at the scene on Monday evening, said that for the first time 'the fire had decreased in intensity' while still urging 'extreme caution'.

The Vatican on Monday expressed its 'incredulity' and 'sadness', expressing 'our closeness with French Catholics and with the Parisian population.'

The cause of the blaze was not immediately confirmed. The cathedral had been undergoing intense restoration work which the fire service said could be linked to the blaze.

Yeah, I think they'll be good for raising the money to rebuild.

If they rebuilt the Reims cathedral after it got completely wrecked during the war, they’ll rebuild this one, too. It’s not like it’s the first cathedral that burned down. It’s gonna be all right.
As I said, they can "rebuild" as much as they want, but what's lost is lost and it's not the building itself that is being mourned so much as it's the history of what it has been comprised of for several centuries, even the previously rebuilt parts.
