These must be a definitions of "quick" and "sale" I am not aware of in the English language.

I wonder actually if that car has been run recently too, standing for months on end doesn't do alot of good.

Probably should be pointed out again that all previous evidence has suggested that Chris has very little say in the logistics of selling the car. Barb asks him to do a little marketing, but makes the rest of the decisions herself.

Listing it for $10000 seems like a big step. It shows they are climbing down from their "NO HAGGLE" stance they have taken for months. I wouldn't be suprised if the price continued to drop slowly until they have a bite. It also shows that they are moving off of the "we want the same amount we paid for it" argument. "We paid $15000 so we want $15000 for it" was an incredibly naive position to take about a car. It looks like they have backed down from that, and started taking a "We want as much as we can get for it" stance.

My guess is that within 2-3 months the Chandler's will sell the car for around $4000, or whatever the more knowledgable car people here say it is worth.

Cue the optimistic rating.

I bet he thinks he's real smart by pricing it $5 under a straight 10 grand as if it's not completely transparent.

A few dollars/cents off a round figure may work for smaller items like LEGO or food items, but no one actually thinks this car is a better deal because it's under the all-important 10G line.

It actually makes it look like he hiked up the price, at first glance. To me, at least. I had to stare at the number for a moment before I realized it wasn't $99,995.

Well, 100 grand would be a ridiculous ask, even for Chris. People do tend to respond better to prices that are a few dollars or cents under a round number. Particularly if it knocks a digit off (4 figure price instead of 5 figure).

Although he might do better using a comma or a space to highlight the 4-figure ness of the price. People reading quickly see 9,995 or 9 995 as 4 figures more easily than 9995.

Many stores list their prices as $X.99 or $X.95 because it gives the illusion of "this item is cheaper than you'd expect". The countless times I've seen an item listed as say, $11.99 and some person near me says "Wow, it's only 11 dollars!" is a bit astounding but it happens. A lot of people tend to only look at the number before the decimal point. $11.99 looks far more visually and financially appealing than $12.00.

As for "Reduced for Quick Sale!" he used it because it grabs the customers attention and gives a sense of urgency. "Buy this now or someone else will!"

The people who are actually paying attention to Chris might not be fooled, but the tactics are pretty well-known and can be quite effective, although I doubt he realizes why stores list these things the way they do. Chris probably thinks that because it works for stores it has to work for him and Barb too.
