Oddworld Soulstorm - and other Oddworld games but mostly this

So the new Oddworld in development is going to be a re-imagining of Exodus, in particular it's going to be the version of Abe's Exodus that devs wanted to make the 1st Exodus but couldn't due to time and budget issues.

This new one could be much different than the first, especially in tone. It could also be removing several things from the original version, though it could be unsure at this moment in time.

Thoughts?

I like the game so far, just got to the Slig Barracks. Some shit is wonky and other shit is outright bad but when it's good it's very good.

I'm absolutely enraptured by the story. Can't wait to see how much (more) different it will be. I have a feeling that the "she" Abe mentions at the beginning is Sam, the Mudokon Queen Lorne's been trying to fit into a game for ages.

The video is fine, no spoilers. It's a presentation by Lanning where he talks origins, backstory and how they have expanded the lore.

I got as far as the train and the game is just kinda... bad? And buggy. The platforming feels sloppy and imprecise. Abe'll hang on some platforms while just falling through others. There's a section in the barracks where you have to guide a bunch of mudokons through some Slig patrols by hiding inside lockers. They're supposed to hide when you do, except that they register that Abe's gone inside a locker approximately 50% of the time, resulting in a bunch of deaths.
Scavenging materials for crafting is also kinda tedious in my opinion.
I've been replaying Exoddus to check if I'm just blinded by nostalgia, but nope, it still holds up really well. So much in fact that it kinda shits all over Soulstorm IMO.

EDIT also the camera is pretty infuriating, it's fully 3D and the way it moves it encourages basically rubbing Abe against every corner of every level to actually find secrets. I quit at the train bacause the camera angles purposefully hid the way forward. I managed to get through after a while and then I just went fuck it and fired RetroArch.

I really hate his design because he's originally supposed to have 4 legs but they make his altered legs look normal when they shouldn't. The anatomy doesn't work especially that it's a surprise reveal that he's a centaur.

While I can agree the platforming can be wonky, I haven't really had much trouble with it outside of a few very specific circumstances, same with the Mudokon AI. I've found all of the Mudokons and most of the secrets so far and not once have I thought "That secret was horseshit, how the fuck was I supposed to know that was there". It has very similar secret areas to DKC Tropical Freeze so maybe I just know what to look for. A shame you didn't enjoy it, but now at least you're playing a good game anyway!

Oh, right, it's only fair that I mention that there is one part of the game I think is objectively fucking terrible and I was stuck on it for ages. It's a small part but man did It make me grit my fuckin teeth. If you're playing, you'll peobably know it when you get there.
