One pair runners for everyday use
One pair dress shoes for work and/or formal events
One pair heavy steel toed/waterproofed boots for winter.

What the fuck else do you need?
Sandals, clogs at least one pair of mules and maybe a canvas shoe too. Galoshes and insulated winter boots. Seasonal slippers. A variety of formal shoes and boots as you can't wear a pair with just anything. Heavy work boots, hiking boots and pairs of shoes for gym and sport. I like having a pair of knee-high snakebite resistant hunting boots and some moccasins as well as a pair of shoes just for fun.

Looking for advice: I'd like to buy a pair of creepers and I never owned a pair before. Any advice on what to look for or recommendations?

Edit: I've tried them on in stores before, I adore their clunkiness, so that's not a problem. I'm an americunt who rather not pay international shipping if anyone has any store recommendations, but will do it if the shoe is that good.

Hopefully not late...

The main thing to know is that any authentic creepers have a crepe sole, whereas fashion versions will most likely have a rubber sole, and there are benefits to both. Crepe soles are unusually heavy, but spongier/bouncier and more durable than rubber, and the material is sort of sticky or tacky (it'll really pick up animal hair for example). Finally, crepe is a much more expensive material, so will really affect the price - at a guess $150-200 for a basic pair.

If you do want to go down the authentic route, you could look for the Underground brand in US stores, they're not as expensive as George Cox but still an English brand with a bit of heritage, and should be more widely available in the States. Their classic model is called Wulfrun.

Nah, you're in time, I've been busy with classes and have been slow to research. This is a lovely help, thank you! I'm gonna think about this since I'm a Floridian so I'm gonna look for something that can stand sudden thunderstoms and puddles, the rubber sole might be best for my climate then. Thank you, glad I asked this thread :heart-full:

Be careful and look for reviews / ask friends if you go with rubber soles. The soles on my last pair of creepers came apart after a few weeks. They were not even solid, just a mesh sandwidched between two layers of thin rubber.

Do you remember what pair you got? I'll def be looking at reviews for that, even "decent" shoes can fall apart badly.

Sounds like the kind of bullshit that normally only happens with Chinese knockoffs and Wal-mart or similar value brands.

Have any of you ladies ever tried the Duckfeet brand of shoes/boots? Their boots look super cute in pictures, and I love the idea of actually having room for my toes, but I'm wondering both whether they're a manageable level of ridiculous and whether they are indeed comfortable once broken in... the toe box looks no weirder than some of the old Fluevog models, at least, and they were very reasonable in person. Ugh, the Sjælland looks so darn nice, though!

Was browsing the Royal Black / Jodee Norene Kalra thread (highly recommend reading, she's quite the insane lolcow) and saw where she tweeted about Sketchers bringing back their popular 90s chunk heel shoes:

These are cute and cheap too, so, I had to get them.

I got some crazy used winklepickers last year, they were apparently made in Europe (meaning probably made in Spain or Portugul). I basically stole them off ebay for $50 from some chump that didn't put in enough tags for the search engine, and I had just-so specifically been looking for winklepickers at the time. I know nothing about these shoes, there is no branding on them at all, nothing, possibly handmade.

Yeah I have and I really love the shape of them. They’re really comfy once they’re broken in and surprisingly grippy on snow. The only issue I have with them is there’s no removable footbed so if you need orthotics you’re out of luck. Otherwise, great shoes, good quality, last forever. I have a pair of fåborg and a nyborg.
(Also recommendations for similarly shaped shoes gladly taken... grünbein are pretty good as well.)

Love the hell out of my Docs. I need to take better care of them but they've held up better than any other shoes I've had. Changed the laces recently since the original ones shredded apart, I really like how this color looks. Still miss my jungle boots that I wore to death, I'll have to get another pair someday.
(Docs fit the best when you have on socks your mom knit for you, that's a fact!)

Part the first: Nice avatar, fam!

Part the second: Well worked-in Docs are the BEST docs, and yes they need some thicc fucking socks or will ruin your ankles with blisters by the end of the day. Treat you Docs with respect, they will return the favour.

I really want to invest into shoes but like, why have more than one pair? Even with 3 pairs for different occasions, one is gonna feel superior to the others. Do people consciously choose shoes that fit worse because they look better? Especially now that 'active wear' sneakers are both really fashionable and comfortable?

I've never understood the obsession with shoe fashion and shit. Seems kind of faggy to me.

I have a a 3 sets of 40 dollar slip on dress shoes and a pair of 50 dollar steel toed combat boots and thats it. You don't need more than that.

Feels. I have a pair of Timberlands I hardly ever wear because the stiff leather is hell on my ankles. Maybe I just need to buy thicker socks...

I should get a new pair of Docs some time. I had a fire engine red patent pair of knockoff ones back when I was 13 but I stopped wearing them because I outgrew them.
