Campaign Ammo On Gun Control and VR - Wherein John can't differentiate between VR and the real world

  • Intermittent Denial of Service attack is causing downtime. Looks like a kiddie 5 min rental. Waiting on a response from upstream.

Attached is the Twitter sperg-out John had over gun control and why America should just ban guns.

Because VR is just as good as real life, then proceeds to get into a Twitter slap fight with an actual VR developer about the differences between VR and the real world.

Blatantly stolen from the Wu thread.

The fact that Wu thinks that his sweeping legislation is a good idea based on the prediction that everyone has/will soon have access to an Oculus Rift, a $600 toy, and the computer to run it, is another good example of the inanity of the pigeonhole he's trying to create as the consumer tech industry congressman.

yes video games are always the go to reference when discussing firearms
Aren't video games the tool of the devil the rest of the time? Or is it just people who enjoy them?

Brianna Wu: if the poor can't afford bread, let them eat virtual cake.

Perhaps Wu should become a VR politician. The only reason she wants to be a politician in the first place is because:

A: Empowerment fantasy.
B: Having control over people is fun.
3: Because Mississippi? With modern technology we don't even need politicians anymore? Or something?
4+: :autism:

John is forgetting that VR is fucking expensive, even compared to IRL firearms and that a lot of people into guns don't want to have to buy a $1000 pc and $800 vive, maintain it, etc. so they can pretend to fire a virtual gun that doesn't compare to the real thing.

Wu might claim that gun control laws can get in the way and make VR a preferable alternative, never mind the fact that you got people willing go through the hoops and the fact that the VR that simulates real life very accurately would have to either come from the military (for the purposes of training) and from a developer that could most likely end up saying fuck it and either giving up or having a game that isn't exactly as accurate as real life.

Still, guns let you go outside, get some fresh air, be in nature, fire real, physical projectiles. VR makes you stay in a hot room tangled in a mess of cables to pretend fire a fake gun.
Not saying VR isn't cool, but it's not surprising people prefer real guns, especially the demographic that typically enjoys them (older republicans)

Let's also not forget that compared to VR, guns require more than just hold, shoot and reload. Those that do bother to go out and shoot a gun would know more than some neckbeard or legbeard that fired a gun in a VR game.

Plus, guns are like a lot of other hobbies (cars, musical instruments, computers) where you can get really into upgrading and customizing it to suit you.
