equals $80K + in damages to our local drop in center for mentally ill people of which I'm both a client and volunteer of.

I met up with my friend Sam early friday morning for breakfast. At around 6:30 we stop by the drop in center to sit on the bench outside and bullshit while I had a few smokes. We get there and I see a garden hose jammed through the bottom of the side door and water gushing out of it. I had my friend call the police who took their sweet time getting there. An officer arrived and took pictures and told us he knew who did it. Sam and I also knew who did it. It was Jake, one of the many local chronic meth addicts in the area. Jake was also a client who just a day previously was allowed back from what was supposed to be a lifetime bann because one of the case managers had pity on him.
The cop left and we thought that maybe the hose didn't get all the way through. We found out differently about an hour later. The water DID in fact get through the door. It flooded every square inch of the facility. All of the case workers were pulling what they could out of there and mopping while they waited for one of those emergency drying services to arrive.

Then Jake comes stumbling towards the building tailed by two police cars. He admitted it and was arrested.
The damage is quite severe. It could be a month or more before it reopens if at all. At least one client cried when he found out what happened. Since it was a Friday, some people missed out on a free meal and bingo.
Art group and supported employment activities are cancelled. Everything in the refrigerator and freezers have gone to waste. This place is some people's only social outlet and it's gone for them. All because the case workers would no longer bend over backwards for someone who won't take the smallest step towards helping himself.

The real stink is that it apparently wasn't newsworthy. We have to just fend for ourselves and hope the insurance covers everything. The only positive outcome is that they're FINALLY keeping Jake in jail and with all his priors, hopefully they'll finally throw the book at him.

I haven't been this pissed off in a long time.

Update:

It's really starting to look like an if it will reopen rather than when. It's been nearly a month now and not much has been done besides throwing out all of our books, board games and movies as wel as several furniture items. The inspectors found that the building was already infested with black mold before the incident. I'm doing okay overall, just wishing I could get straight answers so I can find a way to help, and having a reason to get up at a decent hour for coffee with friends.
