Origins of the Sonichu Medallion -

I was watching that video where a troll destroys the Sonichu medallion (http://youtu.be/bzlUoAOpiak), and noticed this comment:

So I went ahead and googled the show. Here's what I found:

The three siblings have powerful medallions that can change into musical instruments, and also weapons when the triplets are in perfect harmony with each other. Sonic's medallion is an electric guitar. Sonia's medallion is a keyboard that functions as a smoke machine, Manic's medallion is a drumset that can be used as an "earth controller" with cymbals that can deflect laserfire. All of the medallions can be used as laser guns. The three use the amulets not only to fight Robotnik's forces but to also as instruments for their underground (illegal) rock band, "Sonic Underground".

So, is this why Chris came up with the whole medallion thing? Just ripping off some other Sonic cartoon?

If this was already known, I'm very sorry. Just let the thread die. But I couldn't find it anywhere on the CWCki, and got curious.

I have no idea. But I get the feeling Chris was a fan of anything Sonic-related, so it could be a possibility... Maybe he wasn't a fan, but watched the show and thought the medallion thing was cool. I don't know.

The reason I ask is because he's very particular about specific versions of various shows he's a big fan of. So he could be a big fan of X, but hates Y, because of some spergy, tiny difference.

He might? I don't know, I don't remember, but I remember there was some show you could've thought he spergily loved, but some weird difference caused him to hate one version of the series, because of a different voice actor or some shit. I don't know, beats me.

Well, the show's original run was from Sept '99 - May '00 on UPN according to Wikipedia. Chris recalls making the original meddow in "late 2000." So it's at least possible, even probable, he got the idea from the cartoon. Also, as everyone should know, the current meddow contains all the memories of the other meddows and is not make cheaply of paper. So there's that.

I always equated the medal with Sailor Moon because he uses it to "transform" into C-Chan Sonichu, but if he wasn't using Sailor Moon to STAY STRAIGHT until 2005ish then anything could be possible.

The CWCki says that he made it in 2000, but was first photographed wearing it in 2004. Either way, both dates are before he met Megan and got into Sailor Moon.

That's a pretty good point.

That's actually really interesting - mostly because it's, to my knowledge, the first time Chris has ever actually acknowledged Sonic Underground. He did like that other crappy sonic cartoon, so it doesn't actually surprise me much. But I have to wonder what it was like for Chris as an extremely obsessive, extremely autistic Sonic fan growing up in the 90s. You'd think he would be bothered by all these vastly different interpretations of his favorite series - as someone mentioned earlier, he flipped shit when The Cleveland Show so much as changed a measly voice actor - but he seems to have loved DiC's crappy wannabe grimdark interpretation of Sonic just as much as he loves the Sonic world currently presented in the games. Wasn't bothered by the transition at all, apparently. And, if the medallion really was inspired by Sonic Underground (which, for the fortunate among us who haven't watched it, has pretty much nothing to do with the Sonic aside from the title character; everything else is just a vessel for pretty colors, bad music and appealing to autistic kids), that just adds another layer to the equation.

It's like he took bits and pieces from everything around him (sonic, pokémon, transformers, anime, whatever the 90s could come up with) and mixed it up with all his personal stuff (autism, loneliness, social isolation). Eventually he got interested in "grown-up" things like sex and pornography, and that began showing up on the comics too.

Then the trolls came in, with a whole new level of outside information for him to use (I don't think Chris would've ever heard of ED if it wasn't for his trolls, for example).

Sonichu is really unique, in its own way. It's like a window to a very warped mind.
