Oscar Isaac is attached to play Solid Snake in Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ action movie “Metal Gear Solid,” currently in development at Sony Pictures.

The studio announced the casting Friday. The film is based on the 33-year-old “Metal Gear Solid” video game franchise, created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami. The script is written by Derek Connolly. Avi Arad is producing. Peter Kang is the executive overseeing for the studio.

The game, launched on the PlayStation in 1987, follows Solid Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit.

Sony Pictures. That's a badge of bad quality if there ever was one, but at least it's not sony animation.

I recently replayed MGS and what i found cool at 13 is supremely cringey now. Liquid's monologues about genes and so on are laughable and there's a whole horny teenager vibe to the whole thing.

Still thoroughly enjoyable and a landmark game. Be interesting to see the film result and see how they get around that stuff.

Metal Gear was released in 1987. The PlayStation didn't even exist back then. Metal Gear Solid was released in 1998. Jesus Christ. Journalism is dead.

Personally, I'm alright with Isaac being Solid Snake. I just don't like the idea of a Metal Gear movie being made. There are just many small details that make the Metal Gear series special that can't be replicated from a video game to a film. The Mantis boss battle, some of the dialogue, etc.

Oscar Isaac is a good enough choice of Solid Snake. I think a good screenwriter could take the broad strokes of MGS (Big Boss, clones, FOXHOUND, Shadow Moses) and adapt it into a decent action/adventure film. Unforuntely, this one's being written by Derek Connolly who has delivered greats like Jurassic World and The Rise of Skywalker.

Meh

I've said this movie is doomed for damn near 15 years now and it wont be because they get the wrong guy to play snake. MGS will never work as a film. Could maybe work as a series but even that is a huge maybe.

Scarlett for Mei Ling. ML isn't Japanese but its her chosen people anyway.

If this was the 90s you could get Cynthia Rotrock, Rene Russo, or Famke Jansen to play Meryl. Elizabeth Debicki could work.

Rachel Weisz as Naomi. If Paz is going to be in it they can cast Kevin Gilles so the bomb can go off in his pocket pussy.

I'm also seeing people clamoring for Mads as Raiden.

Yep I'm looking forward to everything but the "Sony" part. Considering how often they like to use Spider Man as their little fuck toy.

The only thing that's even slightly true about the original statement is that, if you were playing Metal Gear in 1987, you were likely playing it on a machine made by Sony since they were the predominant manufacturer of MSX2 format computers. But, obviously, the MSX2 is not the Playstation.

I didn't know about Sony even making MSX2's until I looked that up. It seems farfetched now but Sony once manufactured a gaming device where the "MS" stood for Microsoft and the next letter is X.
