From what I heard, the few people who went to see it absolutely loved it and said it was destined to be a cult classic, but it wasn't getting that same respect from critics.

I could be wrong on this though, I'm just going by what I've read on the Internet which is almost certainly bullshit (and written by salty BR2049 fanboys).

It could be a regional thing too to be fair, the critics over here were saying that it was a worthy sequel and how great it was, I don't remember seeing a bad word against it (except a few people decrying the running time).

My favorite sperg out so far was on SiriusXM Hits 1. They had someone from Rotten Tomatoes on spazzing out about how Wonder Woman was going to be talked about 25 years from now about being the most groundbreaking film for women that got SNUBBED at the Oscars.

I'm one of the people who didn't like it and can absolutely see why critics didn't either. It was in dire need of a more cutthroat editor (I get that long, lingering shots are a thing in the original but this movie took it to the max, it shouldn't take a 30 second slow zoom to start every scene), Ryan Gosling looked like he was holding in a fart for most of the movie, and they replaced Vangelius' exemplary soundtrack with more Hans Zimmer BWAAAAAAAAAMS.

And as someone who really enjoyed the original movie, the continuation of Deckard and Rachael's story (honestly, the fact there was a continuation at all) was extremely out of place and felt like something you'd see in a Marvel movie or Star Wars instead of a future noir film. Deckard's involvement (if you absolutely must include him) should've amounted to K needing his advice on a cold case or something, not being the Adam and Eve of the nascent Replicant Revolution.

This is the only example I remember; will probably add more examples here later.

Lol please, Madoka was fun and all but it probably has little to no normie appeal. I don't even know if Oscars allow movie sequels of TV shows.

"Best Actor" "Best Actress"

Are they assuming gender? I think we're due for a 'Trannys in movies' controversy.

When that guy from The Danish Girl was nominated for an Oscar, Tumblr lost their shit because some cis actor was getting the attention instead of a trans one. Yet when Felicity Huffman won for Transamerica, nobody gave a fuck.

Wonder Woman isn't the first female superhero movie, Catwoman and that Supergirl movie all came before it. They were terrible of course, but Wonder Woman was medicore at best and it doesn't deserve any awards, period, for how cheap it looks and how badly directed it was. The salt from Wonder Woman fans about this is as sad as anything else I've seen from the Oscar nominations.

They should be offered a shitton of money to someone like Kathyrn Bigalow to direct it since WB really did push hard for Wonder Woman to be nominated. I encountered a lot of articles that pushed for it to be nominated that were obviously paid for.

The animation category at the oscars is a joke, mainly because animation isn't seen as serious film medium in the United States. Sure, you have Disney who at least try to put out one quality animated film a year; but they are the exception and not the norm. Most animated films are literally intended for young children. I sure someone can name an example, but I can't think of a single American made animated film in the last decade that was intended for an older audience.
Most of the time whoever it is doing the nominations don't even bother watching animated movies and just pick them based of whatever their grandkids liked. I'll dig up the article on it.

The whole thing is basically fan service to the original. You've gotta be paying attention to the entire film and familiar with the original to understand most of the film, but if you're an autistic fanboy of the first you'll love it, I know I did.

I'm convinced the film was made specifically to root out the people who actually love Blade Runner vs the people who say they love Blade Runner to sound like they have taste.

Because that's a cis woman playing a trans woman, which isn't the same as a trans woman playing a trans woman.

Just as a question, has anyone even been recommended a film because it won an Oscar? Never in my life have I ever heard someone talk about a film being good and using its Oscar award as a reason.
Just like the Emmys, the golden globes, the Grammys and pretty much every awards ceremony that has to do with major celebrities, the Oscars is a forgotten ceremony, and people only care about it whenever it happens. I couldn't care less about any of that. It already looks like very few people actually watch them, and merely a fraction of that consists of people who "care".

The closest I've ever had someone recommend a movie based on the Oscars to me was Mad Max Fury Road, and that person was basing his recommendation purely on the film's cinematography.

I used to go through the decades and pick out Best Picture winners because there was a wall of them at the video rental place, back when those existed. Of course, this was for old movies. I think the older choices have held up better, perhaps because there were fewer movies back then to choose from. Many Best Picture Oscars these days are transparently political. (Possibly the older ones were, too, but I just don't recognize the politics.)

Anyone who cares about the Oscars is completely autistic.

I haven't cared about them in years. The only best picture nomination I've heard of is Dunkirk. Although I think there was a thread on here about Cole Smithey ruining the Rotten Tomatoes score for Lady Bird. But I have no idea what that film is about. President Johnson's wife? Dunno. Don't care.

I remember there was a controversy over Dunkirk not having black soldiers in it despite historical accuracy being a goal. Forget who was actually there. We need to sprinkle in an equal measure of diversity because after all, it's the current year isn't it? People need to see themselves in popular films even if it's not accurate.

You didn't see people demanding white men be included amongst the black cadets in Red Tails did you? Hell no. It only matters when there are too many white men on the screen at once despite it simply being historical accuracy at work.

I assume we're in for more "Oscars so white" salt despite Ten Years a Slave and Moonlight (which I had never even heard of before the nomination) winning in recent years. I thought maybe it was about werewolves. But then realised that would never get nominated. I'm out of the Hollywood loop because it's not a loop I care to be in anymore.

Nah just expect an MTV style 'Genderless Actor' category and as a political show, they give it to a woman even if she didn't deserve it.

If it happens I will not be the least bit surprised. I just hope that the whole genderspecial social epidemic runs it's course before then. I know I'm being :optimistic:. But I can dream.

Sooner or later there will be a big fanfare about the first "actorx" to receive a nomination for something along with "But what category do we really put xir under?". And it will be the most retarded thing ever but it will get tons of press and lots of REEEEs from triggered genderspecials on social media. And many laughs will be had on the farms.
