They did, and the Khazars are Jews in the 867 start, which makes them one of the most popular candidates for founding Israel because you can just invade Jerusalem instead of dicking around with holy wars. (forming Israel is something I'm tempted to do, incidentally, but I'm not sure if I'll do the Khazars, the Falashas or something else.)

I got fed up with tard wrangling crusaders and geting my arse kicked by Fatimid doomstacks, so I decided to play a nice, relaxing game with a mod that adds African Romance and Pannonian cultures. I thought I'd start as an African ruler and reconquer Mauretania from the Muslim petty kingdoms. The result is this:
This is a 769 start, so this all happened in less than 50 years. Religiously, Mauretania looks like this:
The Catholic faith is no longer the religion of a few Berber coastal towns and Latin villages it was fifty years ago and now covers almost all the coast, as well as Mauretania's overseas possessions with the exception of the recently conquered Sardinia.
Crowned by the Pope himself, Rei Serbastianu d'Africa is a sight to behold, having personally orchestrated the reconquest of Sardinia from the iconoclast Byzantines by the clever strategem of "waiting for the Bolghars to try and attack Constantinople and then declaring war" - incidentally the same tactic his grandfather used to conquer the Balearics. He also managed to conquer Valencia from the Ummayads and pushed the Ibadis back into the interior after a rebellion in Algiers.
His grandfather, who started a resurgence of African culture:
and his father, who converted to Christianity along with half his vassals, later becoming a zealous Christian:

Of course, every Christian state surrounded by Muslims needs a good enemy, and Mauretania is no exception:

The Ummayads haven't really been that threatening and I actually managed to grab Marrakesh (back when I was Ibadi) and Valencia (as a Catholic) off them. They've preferred to expand to the north - as you can see they grabbed Galicia off Asturias, managed to get Navarre back after losing a holy war for it, and will probably pick on Italy which got Barcelona a few years ago next. Sardinia fell into my hands after I decided that an ambitious, wrathful king with a zealous father would surely want to do something about his Sardinian brothers being under the yoke of heretics and granted myself claims to its counties with the console. Before you insult me for cheating, remember that I had about half as many troops as Byzantium on a good day and that I only won because the Byzantine AI tried (and failed) to stop Muslim Wallachia invading Thrace.
And now, just like in every CK2 game I play, here are the obligatory bloopers:

On the topic of Islam, this king seems to be very religiously confused:

At least it isn't on the level of Paradox's classic religious errors such as "Are you a Jewish?", "The difference between a Catholic and a Catholic is that...", "Tengri will strike down their 'Tengri'!", or my personal favourite:

Paradox is so far gone by now that I'm really only interested in Vicky 3 via the myriad of ways Paradox will fuck this up rather than a genuine interest in the game. The hype and expectations versus reality will be amazing to watch. Like a more autistic tankie Cyberpunk meltdown.

Royal Court looks promising. Considering how enjoyable Northern Lords is, I’m certain it’ll be great fun for all of 20 hours before I figure out the cheese. I hope it makes peace time actually interesting. Honestly, playing small is where the game is most fun, but it’s too easy to break.
With the recent Paradox announcements, it did make me think of this "What If" situation. They said that the only reason that Cities Skylines was greenlit, was because of how badly SimCity 2013 failed on launch. But what if SC2013 was (even though it won't happen because EA LOL) actually a good and successful game? Would Paradox not have gotten more spotlight, since C:S wouldn't have been made? Does the Cities Skylines player base even crosses over with other Paradox games?

Is Paradox's fanbase primarily tankies and tradcaths because of autism, or because playing a historical strategy game with a command economy conditions you to believe that the kind of shit you do in-game might work in real life?
I don't know if Vic3 will be a total trainwreck though. They did a decent job fixing up Imperator, and that game is basically VickyII in ancient Rome with better graphics and a simpler economy.

Speaking as a tradcath who enjoys Paradox games, much of it is down to the fact that you can essentially play out an alternate history where ”your side” wins and lots of us feel that history could have been changed for the better.
This isn't exclusive to tradcaths - I know a Muslim who plays CK2 and found that his favourite campaign was reuniting the ta'ifas and killing the newborn Reconquista, and I'm sure there are some pagans who enjoy sacrificing the Pope to Odin or whatever - and I don't exclusively play as Catholic rulers (in fact, one of my favourite campaigns was one where I cut Ælla's balls off, blinded him and sacrificed half the Catholic nobles in England at a blot) but it sure is nice to wonder what could have happened if the Kingdom of Jerusalem never fell or if the African Romance peoples in the Maghreb survived, and ahistorically blobbing in CK2 is one of the most fun ways to do that.

Paradox doing SJW shit or blatantly just getting history wrong is part of why I refuse to buy CK3.
Just to list a few things wrong with CK3 off the top of my head:
Elagabalus was not an empress, ”Deus vult” and ”Allahu akbar” are both historically appropriate phrases (although the actual Latin would be ”Deus lo vult”), the Byzantine Empire did not use primogeniture, a pagan controlling Italy does not mean the Pope stops existing, and Harald Fairhair was not a fag.

And then they make slavery the optimal strategy in both Imperator and Stellaris, and ruthlessly exploiting one's vassals and colonies the best move in EU4 (even though it turned Spain into a basket case IRL). VickyII is the only paradox game that rewards you for being leftist (though reactionary state capitalism does the job too), and that's mainly because the capitalist AI is moronic & the plurality mechanic boosting research. Unless turning everyone into robots like synth ascension in Stellaris is the ultimate end of globohomo, which is at least metaphorically true.
I think the indoctrination works differently . Doing evil shit is how you win in Paradox games, so gullible players will think that's how the countries that are on top now did it, which is the basis for the leftist worldview.
