At least Ben Schwartz was funny, but that's because Ben Schwartz is naturally funny.

I watched half a season because of my sister badgering me and I remember hating nearly all the characters for being smug and obnoxious.

If it was the first season, I kind of agree. I didn't really enjoy it at the start either, but it did get better. Maybe they got better writers as it got closer to the second season and onwards? Because to me, it felt like the people who wrote the first season could only write for Leslie Knope, because that was the only kind of person they could identify with, and every other character suffered for it.

The only way I'd watch this is if it were a solid half hour of Ron Swanson and nothing else.

The first season is the only good season precisely because it didn't try to develop annoying side characters like Jerry, Donna, Tom and Jean-Ralphio. If the show started with Adam Scott instead of Mark Bredanawicz as Leslie's romantic interest, the first season would be remembered a lot more fondly.

Parls and Recreation was originally conceived as an The Office spinoff for Rashida Jones' character (that I barely remember) and that really shows in the first season. I only continued watching cause I thought April was smoking hot. That said it does start to hit it's stride towards the end of Season 1 and is now one of my all time favourites.

I didn't want to watch this because I feared it would be too current year but was pleasantly surprised to learn they didn't go there.

It was alright, had a good bit of chuckles. Ron Swanson as always is my fav, and it's good to see the cast get together one last time.
