Lmao. Sargon makes $8,000+ on Patreon and he's going to chuck that all away on some site no-one knows that may well end up lasting about 5 minutes? I mean it's probably smart to have an alternative because he's the sort who'd end up banned for "promoting hate speech" or something along those lines, but as far as him actually pulling the plug goes? Yeeeaahhhh. I'll believe it when I see it.

As I understand, he's going to keep the Patreon going but is encouraging people to switch over. That said, for some reason a lot of people just make a pledge and then will sit on that pledge until the end of creation (for reasons I do not understand). Plus, people do not like making new accounts for shit. So if he decides to start doing a 'full switch', I have a feeling that's going to be a chunk of change left no matter how many times he'll remind his viewers he's switching, and it'll be awkward to just have it lingering there.

Plus, I found it really strange how he seems to credit Patreon for allowing him to make this his career while simultaneously shitting all over them for such a minor change. Now I understand looking at corporations as faceless, but they outright came out and told Anita Sarkeesian (whom has more sway than people think) that they're not shutting down his account because he did nothing wrong - very recently, in fact!

I am extremely annoyingly vocal about free speech too, but that whole spiel was just jawdropping stupid.

This may sound :autism: considering the shear amount of people who wouldn't have threads on this site if not for them, but i think Patreon has been one of the better platforms when it comes to treating people equally, aside from Jack the company hasn't been anywhere near as explicit in their politics.

They didn't start a crusade against "fake news" like Facebook, they don't fall in line for people like Wu or Harper like Twitter, and they don't have a policy regarding explicit material that they completely ignore in some instances like certain cam-whores on Twitch or the degenerate children's programs on YouTube.

And when you get kicked off of Patreon your off, they don't play games and throttle you. I've never seen anyone have their Patreon locked down temporarily only to be let back on and find that some unexplainable "bug" has axed half of their patrons.

It takes a lot of semi credible accusations of something that would cast a unanimously bad shadow over the companies image among the general public like "this guy hosts a website that's filled with child porn/is filled with cyber bullies" or potentiality raise legal issues like "these people are harassing boats in international waters" to get kicked off the website.

We know Maddox and multiple other people complained to Patreon for months about Dick Masterson and it had zero effect, how many complaints do you think they'd have to receive about Null or Hotwheels before they said "fuck it, not worth the trouble" ?

One of Vordrak's claims about this community in particular is that it is somehow centered around black hat hacking and harrassment, when in reality, most "dox" posted here is publicly available, and sometimes provided outright by the person in question.

However, that issue aside? Even though for the most part, this is just a more interactive wiki about some very strange people, those same people would get pissy at being grouped together. And with such an ugly light thrown on them, it would cause a significant shitstorm....

Either Patreon lolnopes it quickly, or it'd make CNN like GG did.

If you're a pledger who only pledges $1 to one Patreon, then the extra $.38 isn't much.

However, if you pledge $1 to five different Patreons, now you're being charged $6.90 which is almost $2 more than what you were previously donating.

Instead, it would be cheaper for you as a supporter to only pay one creator $5 a month and only spending $5.50.

That is what I liked about Patreon, I could support multiple people with my 5 bucks, but now it's too expensive, and forces my hand to only support one creator more. (Which is exactly what I did.)

These changes will drastically effect how Patreon operates, and like other platforms *cough* Youtube *cough* is something people will have to work around or with.

Not when they were growing the site. When you 1st start a for-profit business, you don't really have grounds to refuse any customers' (legal) money, but once you are up on your feet, you can start listing your demands and conditions, and this is what's happening here.

Patreon made the new policies, and their intent behind them, pretty fucking clear in their initial statement about the policy change. They don't give a shit about talentless, low-effort, sofa-change scroungers; nor should they. That the undesirable bottom segment of their creator pool that matches that description is having a mass chimpout is to be expected, and personally, I think it's in their best interests not to dignify it with a response.
